oh man, this is creepy but I was thinking about asking you guys the same question!
I was (well, am) an only child, so music has always been my best friend in a lot of ways. I bought my first album when I was only 7 - Blondie's Parallel Lines actually. (yes it was current, I know I am getting up there).
I have always loved The Smiths and that is my one huge love I have everything they ever did multiple times etc etc etc. I have never felt Morrissey was as good on his own, but of course I have most of his stuff, too. I like Belle & Sebastian, British Sea Power, the Red Hot Chili Peppers (sort of a different genre from the other bands, but they always cheer me up plus I think they're just plain goofy sometimes), Talking Heads...

Spot the common theme - rock.

My most favorite band ever is QUEENSYCHE. I got to see them a few weeks ago for my Bday. I had the best seat in the place, if you think standing up all through the show as your seat. It was at the Lincoln theatre, and it only holds about 5 maybe 6 hundred people it was awesome! Funny how Benjamin said of his fav that their lyrics were like stealing pages of his life, because my fav has a CD called Promise Land, and i feel like that pretty much sums up my life so far.
I can pretty much listen to anything but i don't like hard rap or bluegrass. Sometimes i get in the mood for a little Jazz, or Blues, and yes a little country. :)

oh yes David Bowie. I neglected to mention him earlier. My first Bowie album was Scary Monsters!!

Short of that, This Mortal Coil and Delerium should be contenders too!

Led Zeppelin
U2
Tori Amos
Kings of Leon
Queen
Van Halen
The Cranberries
REM
David Bowie
Cake
The Cure
The Beatles
Journey
Tegan and Sara
Ani DiFranco
I also love love love 80s music. Honestly, there's so much good stuff out there. Probably more than you can ever discover no matter how long you live. I wouldn't be opposed to a CD swap. We tried it in another group and it was not the best result, but I think it was in the execution.

Whip it, whip it good...!
Yeah! Funny I found my Duran Duran fan club folder in an old box yesterday. Ah the 80's..yep, gotta love it.

and let's not forget Beautiful World. Haha.
What weirdos. Its great.

Too many favorite bands to name:
Slayer
The Black Dahlia Murder
Job for a Cowboy
Behemoth
Skeletonwitch
Children of Bodom
Cannibal Corpse
old Sepultura
King Diamond
and the list goes on and on and on...lol

Good to see so many 80's fans here!
I'll chime in and say I don't really have one.. I have enjoyed M&M,System of a Down, Gorillza's, to name a few of the somewhat newer bands out there.. Still haven't heard Lady Ga Ga sing yet but I'll get around to it. Right now I'm into The Beatles again, Wings & some Elton John (all from my youth) Maybe cuz I know all the words & can dance to it :)

I also love
Ozzy Osbourne
Metallica
Rob Zombie
Marilyn Manson
Nickleback
Shinedown
Hinder
Papa Roach
Buckcherry
Janis Joplin
i could go on and on
I thought about it and I guess it would be
'The Beatles'
I hadn't listened to the music in like 25+ years because it was pretty much played to death and I wanted and like 'newer music' But listening to them again after all these years just puts me in such a :) mood. They are 1 of the only bands IMO that actually evolved w/the times before they burned out or just got sick of eachother and broke up :(
I don't know if the other bands or music will do that for me...
Cept for maybe 'The Gorillaz'
The Beatles are #1 in my music book :)

Samael
Sentenced
Soulfly
VNV Nation
Juno Reactor
John Williams
most KMFDM
Testament
Demon Hunter
most Rammstein
Reverend Horton Heat
Southern Culture on the Skids
Bomboras
Louis Armstrong
Chuck Berry
Jerry Lee Lewis
these are the ones that are played regularly on my MP3 player or piped through my PC to the stereo.

And watching lovers part
I feel you smiling
what glass splinters
lie so deep in your mind
to tear out from your eyes
with a word to stiffen
brooding lies
and i'll only watch
you leave me

Can anyone guess this 80's song, & who sings it. Hint they have already been mentioned.
Duran Duran's The Chauffeur - such a gem and so overlooked! Is that on Rio? I think it is. I'm going to have to go home and download it - I only have Rio on vinyl! I can't even play it because I don't have a record player.

Quick mention....Avenged Sevenfold's song "Little Piece of Heaven" is definitely horror based, kind of like an Edward Lee novel! If you think Lee's stuff is gross, don't ever listen to the lyrics of this song!

But I'm not stuck in the 70s. My two runner-up groups are Nine Inch Nails and The Hold Steady.
