I liked this quite a lot! 4 to 4.5 stars - from my Goodreads review:

I believe everyone gets in their head that this is a romance or horror novel thanks to the musical and the movies from the mid 1900s. But, this book is more of a slapstick action/comedy. I could see if this was converted to a straight up stage production it would come across as a Neil Simon play.

Having read that I may give it a go now. . when I find the time haha

I'm sorry I didn't enjoy this as much as you did Matt! I don't even know why I am surprised. I've read it before and am always disappointed. I think it's because I saw the musical years and years ago before reading the book.

:) No worries - gotta love difference of opinion! I think we have seen that on some books you and I are completely different ends of the spectrum.

For me I liked it because it was different from my perceptions of this story (whether it was the musical, old movies, etc.). Also, I continue to like the other stories as well as the original source material.

I am almost always able to separate source from adaptation and still love them both on their own merit, but I just didn't care for this style.

Case in point, The Shining - one of my all time favorite books, Kubrick's version is one of my all time favorite movies, BUT I think one has nothing to do with the other. I also appreciate the later serial that King approved because it was a more true adaptation, but that's takes nothing away from Kubrick's. IMO

Like you say, it's fun to compare likes and dislikes. :D
