It's almost the middle of the story and things are still a bit floating around. The story is progressing somewhat slow, although I really enjoy Shadow being in Lakeside.Nonetheless I hope the story picks up on speed soon. (& I wanna see more of Sam!)
Lakeside was an interesting resting point. I know towns like that so it was familiar to me in the strange happenings of this book.I liked the G. K. Chesterton reference in chapter 11.
Is it weird that I totally got Shadow talking about nothing surprising him after finding out Laura cheated on him and not when she started walking around all zombie-like? Like, Sure. Tell me that "All things are true, few things are accurate." (Gargoyles) and I probably would adjust to it. Tell me that someone I loved betrayed me? Nope. That is the ultimate way to destroy someone's world view.
This is probably my favorite quote in chapter 11-15 and connects to a thought I am having.
"In the god business," said the figure - and now Shadow was certain it was Wednesday, nobody else had that rasp, that deep cynical joy in words, "it's not the death that matters. It's the opportunity for resurrection."
So, I am also thinking about the tech god starting to quote "The Second Coming" about "the center will not hold" and the group keeps talking about being in the center and how the center does not like gods and spreads out. Does that mean the gods might live? That Odin will somehow be resurrected because he died before people stopped believing in him entirely? Or is it referring to Shadow being some messianic figure? Thought anyone?
The number 15th chapter is definitely my favorite one so far. I just love how Neil writes all this crazy scene with Shadow hanging from THE tree. It's just amazing.
I'm glad to see that the story is progressing at this point. I finally see who the new gods are and their reason for ridding the world of the old gods. The motive behind the war is getting clearer now while we're introduced to new gods (I had to google the old gods to see who they were). I'm eager to see what happens after ch 15 and what will become of Shadow after hanging from the tree. I'm still confused about Laura though, is she like a zombie because I thought she was just a ghost Shadow can see until she got that job. So ghost or no ghost?
