message 3: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (mobyvic) | 2 comments I feel like waiting until next week to go to Wentworth is a BAD thing for Jamie. How can we leave him in that place for a whole week?

message 4: by Diane (last edited May 10, 2015 07:38AM) (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I thought Wentworth would be this week and the next two episodes would be (view spoiler) but I am glad they took some time for the search and let us get to know the character of Murtaugh, Jenny and even Dougle a little better.

Just a short shallow breath! Next week will be the killer!

I met Graham at a fan convention last week. I'm glad it was before this episode, and not after. I would have had a hard time separating the very gracious, entertaining man I met from the slimey conniver I saw on the screen. Since he had on his kilt, I might have kicked him in the shins. (just kidding)

message 7: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments He does the part very well. It is not how I initially pictured Dougle but he embraces the character so well he seems perfect.

MissSusie | 146 comments Any one else let a little cheer when Murtaugh showed up?? I love him so much he was a favorite in the books and the TV show version of him is just solidifying that!

message 9: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (catherinemb) OMG I just saw a sneak peek at Episode 15 on Diana's facebook page. I don't think I'm ready for this!

I do like Murtaugh (and DID cheer), but I LOVED him in the books. Maybe I just had a different frame of mind when reading? I feel like DG's writing had more humor in it then the show has depicted so far... Anyone else? Murtaugh in the books was a "serious scot" but also made little jabs and funny comments I feel like. Anywhoo...

I liked this episode but was bracing for Wentworth. When 30 minutes had gone by and we weren't close yet I knew it would be next episode.

Claire and Jenny's last conversation was missing something. Seemed like Claire had too much time to think and wouldn't she tell Jenny even more if she had gotten to prepare? I thought the potatoes comments was like a "first thing off the top of her head" thing from the books because Jenny was racing off for home.

I just realized that both my above character comments are comparing directly with the books. I NEED TO LET GO! :) I did like this episode and it was a good set up for Wentworth. SO SCARED for next week!

I'm not ready for the next episode and I don't see how I can prepare for it. I didn't like it in the book and I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to bare it on the screen!!! EEEK!

message 12: by Arlene (new)

Arlene | 255 comments Just hope there's no more peek a boos from Black Jack! As it is my husband is telling me I'm watching Lady Porn. He just doesn't get that there is so much more to the stories than the physical aspect. However, with Wentworth, how can you show the mental anguish without showing what caused it? I read somewhere that one thing to do is wait and watch episodes 15 and 16 back to back so you can see Claire's struggle to help Jamie heal. Waiting a whole week could be unnerving even though I know what happens, mostly, this is an adaptation.

Waiting two weeks if you are watching on Starz. Episode 16 is to be shown on May 30th. Marathon of first 15 episodes on Memorial Weekend.

wHAAAAT? 2 weeks. Thats such a bummer.

message 15: by Madeleine (new)

Madeleine Clin | 36 comments the search is my least favourite episode thus far.
In general, I am fine with the minor deviations from the books for the sake of good television -type of story telling, so I don't mind that Murtagh didn't sing and that Clair sang instead. Several important things happened, like the bonding moments as Jenny learns how much Clair really loves her brother, and Murtagh and Clair learn about each other too.
But I really feel that the episode dragged on. Those moment could have taken half the time. If we were going to have a lull in the action, I would have preferred time at Lallybroch instead. I am wondering how they will have enough time for the rest of the book in just two episodes. Wentworth, and the rescue and the healing, wow thats a lot.

message 16: by Harriet (last edited May 12, 2015 08:19PM) (new)

Harriet Schultz | 15 comments An episode without Jamie is...well...no episode. Jenny and the increasingly despicable Dougal were the only interesting parts of this one.

message 17: by Vanessa Eden (new)

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 549 comments I loved claire's singing. I liked the episode. can't wait for next week!

message 18: by Sonya (new)

Sonya (shooten) | 26 comments I have tried to view the tv series and the book differently since I know that they would change somethings and for the most part I have been very pleased with the show. There have been a few things I wish were done differently, but all in all I've been very happy. However, I have to agree with Madeleine when she said this was her least favorite episode. It was my least favorite as well. I felt like they should have put this episode to better use. I don't see how they will put Wentworth and what follows into two hours. That being said the actors are just wonderful. I can't say enough good things about them. They have truly brought these characters to life!

message 19: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments This did seem to be a lot of filler but it was in the book. It is like the calm before the storm. The Dougle scene was very important as well as the Claire and Jenny interaction in the beginning. If they would have scaled this down a bit we would have been left in the middle of Wentworth and that is never a good thing. That being said I wish they had at least 1 additional episode because I can't see them fitting everything in (with the integrity of the book) in only two more episodes. When doing this in a TV format it does make breaking the story down difficult. They have to fit in even increments. When writing a book you do not need to take that into consideration. Lets see what happens in the next two episodes. I would bet the majority of the people will love it and not be able to wait for season 2.

message 20: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 59 comments I agree it is going to be hard to fit the rest of the book into 2 one hour episodes. Maybe we will be surprised by a 2 hour episode for the last? Here's hoping :)

Next book spoiler, kind of: (view spoiler)

message 21: by Arlene (new)

Arlene | 255 comments @ Maureen re the spoiler - (view spoiler)

message 22: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (catherinemb) I'm wondering how they will fit all that remains into 2 episodes as well. Especially since you KNOW they are going to end on a huge cliffhanger.

message 23: by Tina (new)

Tina | 162 comments I think this was a ho hum episode because:

1. very little action

2. everyone is waiting for Wentworth and The Abby

3. NO JAMIE!!!

But it was good to see how much Claire is willing to go through to find Jamie and that her love for Jamie is growing....

Tina, I totally agree with you! Hoping they can fit it all in these next two episodes.

Kat (pokeybeevs) | 1 comments I usually only lurk and don't post, but I had to pose this question....

Does anyone else constantly have the song "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" running through their head? It won't stop!

message 26: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Yes! Especially when I wake up in the morning.

Have to say though that I grew up on Big Band music, (no I'm not from the 40's) My mother and her brother listened to all the big bands whenever they could.

message 27: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I think Diane said it right, the calm before the storm.

Most series I watch that are highly dramatic (Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy) there's always an episode here and there that has less action than what's to come.

I actually liked the episode. I liked watching Claire understand Murtagh, and I liked watching her and Jenny bond. And yes, television Dougal is faaar shittier than book Dougal, I think.

I smell what you're cooking, Sue. We'll have to wait and see how it actually shakes out. I know that the show is not the book, and that doesn't bother me for some reason. Usually, I would be up in arms. But, I'm loving what they are choosing to showcase and am excited to see how it turns out on screen. I was one who was against the casting of Sam. I mean, come on, get a TALL guy to dye his hair red! But, I'm really loving Sam. He's got that je ne sais quoi!

I am anxious to see how they work the rest of this book out in two episodes. Maybe the last episode will be 2 hours?? I haven't heard boo about it but I do know that season 2 is already under way so we'll only have to wait like, 15 years or something, until that comes out :p

Nevertheless, (view spoiler) We'll see what we get. In the end, we always have the books!

And the hot springs. If we just get those I think I'll be happy.

message 30: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I think that it was great in a book, but if they tried to take all of that and spread it over episodes we'd be complaining that they're too slow.

Carol | 193 comments I just read a review on "e", which I normally don't pay attention to. It seems that the person who wrote the article was most impressed with the two last episodes which she considered the best tv - ever! That makes me hope it will all be as it should be. AND I have seen cows on Facebook!

I agree, they did that in part one too. They waste time with a few boring episodes then try to cram what should be the most interesting parts into one episode at the end cutting out most of the good stuff. People don't need a break as they are suggesting, we want action scenes. I thought Rent was like that too.

Mary (poetsdream) | 196 comments Catherine wrote: "OMG I just saw a sneak peek at Episode 15 on Diana's facebook page. I don't think I'm ready for this!"
Diana is suggesting that episode 16 will be the worst, not 15. So now I'm wondering what they are going to do just build up to it in 15 and cram everything into the last episode?

Did anyone else feel that Laura is playing Jenny too tough. I expected a little more affection towards Jamie and Claire. She seems angry all the time?

Everyone is acting like this kind of violence is something new. If you've been watching Game of Thrones will have seen it before, perhaps not gay torture rape but sexual violence, castration, and more has been shown on GoT. I don't think this is making landmark TV because it's violent and men instead of women are being raped.

It is in the books, and from Sam's descriptions of the full body prosthetic makeup he'll be using we know it's not going to be pleasant to watch. I admire Sam and Tobias acting this tough scene out. They do deserve credit for doing it. But I wouldn't call it landmark TV.

What will bother me more is wasting time in the Search episode and then spending too much time on the torture stuff, while cutting out the scene's like Claire and the wolves. Or perhaps even the healing process that went on at the Abby. Well, all we can do now is watch it and see what we think tomorrow and next week.

message 39: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Seriously Sue I just deleted your comment because you just basically told everyone - weather they read the books or not!- what is in store for the rest of the series.

If you want to see Sue's spoiler heavy comment it is here (view spoiler) I know many have read the book/series but we do have member who have not.

I think she has a crush on Sam like the rest of us so take it with a grain of salt.. She's not the most objective reviewer.

If you read DG facebook page she implies that the e-review is not quite accurate as to the sequence of events.
