Have you ever been a fan of an author but stopped reading their work because of changes in their writing ? Why did you "drop" them ? Did you ever go back ?

I was once a fan of David Weber's Honorverse series, when he was publishing his first books in the series. Interesting characters, lots of action, spaceships, etc.
Then, his books became repetitive, long-winded, with unending conversations or monologues. What however killed the series for me was Weber's use of opponents who were either total idiots or were nearly unbeatable. That and the gratuitous slaughter of millions just for shock effect. I dropped the series in disgust halfway and have never looked back.
