Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Hello Everyone and Welcome to UNO2026!

It looks like we have several UNO veterans based on the shelves I saw. Welcome back :) And to anyone who is new to UNO, welcome to the game. Please ask any questions you may have we are all happy to help people sort it all out.

I've played almost from the get go I think and have lost count as to how many years it's been. I am typically a captain, though sometimes life has occasionally pushed me into a regular player role. The break is nice sometimes :)

I love team challenges on GR and this was my gateway challenge, as it seems to be for many people. I'm also a mod over in the NBRC group.

By day I'm the lead economist at the USEPA in the Toxic Chemicals office. And a mother of one who is soon turning 8 and in 2ndt grade, often referred to as Tiny Tyrant as he rules the house with his sticky fist. Or at least in his head anyway.

I have things pretty much set up, the tracking sheet should be up by some time tomorrow. There were a couple people I wasn't sure about their UNO shelf. If you don't see your shelf linked in message 4, please post it in the thread. And if I have a link for you, please check to make sure I grabbed the proper shelf.

Lexi and I generally don't have people 'claim' cards aside from color cards as we've found it easier to move things around that way. I will have all the color cards listed in the tracking spreadsheet. You can claim them there or here in the thread.

If anyone doesn't like spreadsheets, or is traveling/just on the app always feel free to post the pertinent information in the thread and Lexi or I will move it to the spreadsheet for you.

And please give a shout if you have any questions. Looking forward to another fun year of UNO!

Lexi | 749 comments Hi all, my name is Lexi and I am the co-captain. I live in Atlanta, Georgia (EST), and work in public health and parasites. I especially enjoy reading fantasy and sci-fi, and mysteries. I have played and captained/co-captained UNO before.

We have new and returning players, so please ask any questions you might have.

message 13: by Kayt (new)

Kayt (kaytm) | 149 comments Hey there, new friends! I am Kayt and this Uno Challenge is the only reason I still hang out on Goodreads at all. I can't remember if this is my fourth of fifth year. I love a good chatty team, so don't ever worry about blowing my notifications up.

I am located in Reno, Nevada (7 hours away from Vegas since most people really only have Vegas as a reference). I live here with my partner, my youngest kiddo (17) and our fur babies. In August of 2023 I founded The Year of Queer Lit and dedicated my reading to LGBTQIA+ Lit. It has grown a lot, we host 2 stuff your kindle events a year currently. And in September we will officially be launching our press, and have 2 titles coming out in 2026 scheduled.

Can't wait to see what y'all are reading :)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments How interesting and what a great group to of founded!

Welcome to the team Kayt, I hope we can be an entertaining team for you.

message 15: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments I have the tracking sheet ready!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Feel free to claim a couple color/WD4 cards if you'd like to. I also have it linked in a top post so the sheet is easy to find later.

If anyone has any questions about how to fill it out, let me know. I also have the countdowns in the spreadsheet (top left) for an easy reference.

Also, I'm happy to do any spreadsheet work people need if there are access issues or just not comfortable using spreadsheets.

message 16: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 299 comments Hi all, I'm Melanie! I live in New Jersey (EST) with my husband and our 2 cats. I work in the finance department at a publisher although I've been WFH for 6 years now.

I'm not 100% sure what year was my first UNO challenge but I know my first challenge in NBRC was in 2016 so most likely my first UNO was 2017 as people talked about it over there. I've definitely become addicted to challenges in the years since, I even help moderate a challenge group as of 2024.

Looking forward to this one starting!

message 17: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 247 comments Hi everyone! I'm Nicole, and I live in Kansas City (CST). However, I work night shift as an ICU nurse so sometimes keep some strange hours.

I have done UNO since 2017 ish and look forward to it every year. I read pretty widely and am always looking for under the radar recs. I tend to be a mood reader, so not always the best at planning ahead.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Judith, do we have a tracker for non-color cards? If I remember correctly we have to fill a full hand before we can get points on others, right?

Hope everyone is having a great day!

message 24: by Dennieta (new)

Dennieta | 1 comments Hi all, I’m Dennieta! I’m from Indonesia and now live in Massachusetts (EST) with my husband. This is my first time playing UNO, so I’m looking forward to it!

Everything goes on the same tracking sheet. I usually don't have anyone claim other than the color/WD4 cards.

Lexi and I will place them as books finished based on where needs are the most/hardest cards first. As we get closer to the end of the month, I'll post if we need to target specific cards.

Sorry for not seeing this earlier, you can use tineye if you'd like (it's great for percentages) but if it gives you something you don't really agree with for a color, feel free to use your best judgement/post in the thread for a color check.

Tineye can be a bit cray-cray with certain shades

message 28: by Susan (new)

Susan | 20 comments Apologies for being last to check in. I’m watching snow begin here in Louisville and curled up with a good book. I’m looking forward to doing Uno again and always enjoy Lexi getting me involved.

message 34: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Anyone have a book they have been particularly looking forward to reading this month?

I had been really looking forward to Odyssey, the 4th book in Stephen Fry's series about Greek Mythology. Which was excellent and I devoured in 2 days.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 299 comments Judith wrote: "Anyone have a book they have been particularly looking forward to reading this month?"

I'm planning to finally read the Bridgerton books. I've been watching the show and loving it so figured it's a good time to finally read the books.

Have you read Song of Achilles yet? I read it last year and it was so good and parts destroyed my soul. probably one of my favorite books EVER!

message 37: by Kayt (new)

Kayt (kaytm) | 149 comments Heads up for our american folx, when you put in date read on our tracking spreadsheet it goes day first so today would be 3/2/26. I kept typing in 2/3/26 and it was translating it to march. It is early no coffee yet for me, very confusing times. lol.

message 38: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Oh sorry! I think I borrowed/stole this from Karen at one point so it’s probably set for Australia date formats

message 39: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments And Song of Achilles was excellent! It does get you in the feels

I am kind of in a reading slump lately, unfortunately.

message 41: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Oh, boo. I hate it when that happens. I hope the next book you happen to pick up helps!

message 42: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Well, I just filled in the last Draw 2 card already so that's great!

I always like to get those knocked out early

message 43: by Kayt (last edited Feb 09, 2026 07:45AM) (new)

Kayt (kaytm) | 149 comments Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good weekend, I should be finishing up a book today :)

Also I cannot remember do we do a mini challenge in February?

message 44: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Yes, captains have seen a preview so we can asked questions to be prepared to answer our teams' questions.

I expect it will be out to the masses in a couple days?

message 45: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Hello Team!!

The February Mini challenge has been released to the main group.

Later today when I’m on the computer instead of my phone, I’ll link it here in the thread and get a tracking sheet made for the tasks.

This next bit won’t make sense until you read the mini challenge information.

Since Chartreuse is an in between color we could go yellow or green. Lexi and I think green gives better options for shades and associations.

For the non-team colors we were thinking Blue and Purple.

But if the team feels strongly about other colors we are happy to go with what you all would like.

message 46: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Here's the link to the Feb Mini challenge details, also putting a link in a top post

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Remember only books finished after the start of the mini challenge can be used for this (books can be started at any time during UNO, the finish date is the important one here)

Tracking tab is added to our tracking sheet, count down clocks are also on the mini tab for convenience

message 47: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1917 comments Nicole,

Can you add All Adults Here to your UNO shelf when you get a chance?

Thank you!

message 48: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 749 comments It think for non team colors, we should do blue for associations and purple for shades. What are other people’s thoughts?

message 49: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 247 comments Judith wrote: "Nicole,

Done! Sorry about that!
