I started this non-fiction glimpse into the world of American-Chinese cuisine this past week, and so far I am enjoying each chapter that features a different aspect of the culture and the food served here in the U.S. I have learned about lottery winners who based their number picks from fortune cookies, the first uses of delivery service and paper menus, the origin of the fortune cookie, and the quest for General Tso and why everyone loves his chicken.
I really enjoyed this too. I am fascinated by culture and the role food plays in culture as well as history, so this book was just perfect. I loved the historical perspective on how "Chinese food" got started here.
A fun read, but probably not for everyone.
