Guidelines for posting in this thread

We like to see a bit of discussion about the books we are reading, rather than just posting the book link (and the occasional link to a review). The comments should include:

- Books you just started or are currently reading. You might want to add a few words about the book to let other members know whether you like it or not so far.
- Books you just finished, Please include your rating (1-5 stars) and a few words about the book (even if it's something as short as "I loved it / hated it.") If you wrote a full review, you can share the link to it but please include a short summary of your thoughts alongside it.

I am starting the year off with Life as Planned by Amanda Prowse. I enjoy her writing and so far this story is interesting. I appreciate that the character's thoughts and actions are understandable and even relatable. I'm curious to see where the story goes.

I finished Life as Planned by Amanda Prowse Life as Planned. I thought it was very good, but slow moving. I can really enjoy a slow moving book at times though and this one worked for me.

My review of Life as Planned

I also finished The Deal of a Lifetime. I have no idea what to think about it. It was different and a very short story.

I am now reading Geraldine Verne's Red Suitcase. I'm enjoying it, but I'm about 1/3 through and not much has really happened yet.

I have a few books going at the moment.

I'm about 70% of the way through Five Gold Rings. The FMC annoys me at times due to her way of dealing with her breakup. Otherwise, it's a really cute read.

I'm also about 80% through The Marlow Murder Club. I hope to finish this one tomorrow. You have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit, but it's a fun read and I'm enjoying it.

I'm still not very far into Keeper of Lost Children. What I've read is very good. I just haven't had much time to read it. I would really like to find a chunk of time to get engrossed in this one.

Roxann | 17 comments I’m currently reading The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys. It took a little bit to settle into this book, but I am enjoying it. The story takes place in Madrid in 1957 under the rule of General Francisco Franco.

I've recently finished both The Marlow Murder Club and Five Gold Rings. I enjoyed both books.

I am now reading Antihero and looking forward to spending more time reading Keeper of Lost Children.

Anne Crotteau | 2 comments I've just finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, and was really pleased that I chose to listen to an audio version - having a narrator with an Appalachian accent really enhanced the experience. It was a heavy book but little Southern isms gave it the levity it needed. I highly recommend considering the audio version if you plan to read this one.

I'm about to begin Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston.

Thanks, Anne! I have that one on my TBR and I love audiobooks. I'll be sure to listen to that one.

Roxann | 17 comments Anne, I listened to Demon Copperhead on audio and thought it was so well done. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it was much just reading it. The narrator brought all the characters to life for me.

I finished Antihero Antihero (Orphan X, #11) by Gregg Hurwitz a few days ago. It was another great installment in the Orphan X series. I'm not the biggest fan of Joey at times, but it seems like she might be growing up by the end of this one.

I finished Murder at Gulls Nest. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a favorite. I figured out the who-done-it a little early, but there was still a surprise or two. 3.5★

I also finished The Girls Before. I had the audio and listened to the whole thing in 4 days, which is fabulous because I had been feeling a little slumpish and this helped. 4.5★ My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am now reading Whiskey in a Teacup and trying to get back to both Keeper of Lost Children and Daughter of Egypt. I also recently started Dog Person, so I have a few (too many for me) going at the moment.

Here my reviews for my two most recent reads:

Keeper of Lost Children by Sadeqa Johnson Keeper of Lost Children - One timeline was less engaging for me than the other two, but overall an excellent book. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Daughter of Egypt by Marie Benedict Daughter of Egypt - I was underwhelmed by this story by an author I usually enjoy, but the audio was very well done. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Hamza Kach (drhamz) | 2 comments I just Finished reading Lessons in Chemistry] by Bonnie Garmusafter a disappointing series of past few books that I read. My gf recommended this to me and I must say I had fun reading this. The plot is strong and not bloated with random side quests. There are ups and downs and ups. Writing could have been stronger for a certain situation, instead of relying on such a clumsy, random accident. But, despite that one weird plot point, the pacing is great, the story is solid, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

THIS BOOK BROKE ME OUT OF MY READING SLUMP HALLELUJAH! I loved every second of this, a very "good for her" type of book. The audiobook narrator in particular, Cia Court, was perfect, the way she delivered the humor and craziness of the character, the various characters she had to portray, kudos! I could so see this being...

We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix

The book literally started out with a bang, and such imagination from Hendrix, what with the four UPS workers of the apocalypse, the original lyrics and mythos of Durk Work, the interjections of radio spots in between chapters, it was a great book to listen to. Very...

I finished The Bridesmaid. I thought it was good, but not a favorite. It was well-narrated.

I am now listening to I See You've Called in Dead. I'm less than 20% in. I think it started out with a humor that many people will enjoy, but it feels like it's trying too hard to me. I'm hoping it settles in a little. It seems like it is starting to.

I finished I See You've Called in Dead and was very disappointed in it. I know several people who read it and thought it was excellent and funny. I thought it was sad, even depressing at times. There was some humor - the MC using sarcasm as a defense mechanism - but it didn't work for me overall.

I'm now reading Last One Out and Yesteryear.
