Comparisons Between God's Gardeners and Earthseed

I curious as to whether anyone else saw parallels between the God's Garderns religion in Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam series and Octavia Butler's Parable series religion, Earthseed. Both are born out of dystopia and have environmental elements. I'm curious as to what else people have seen in the two fictional religions.

That's an interesting thought, I loved both of those series. I think Butler's Earthseed does not really have the same ultimate focus on environmental issues, because really by the end it is more about ensuring that the human race survives by getting off of planet earth, and not so much about making earth habitable for humans. I think Atwood's God's Gardener's are more comparable to the farm that Earthseed starts in Marin, but by the end of Butler's series I think she is making the clear point that 'going back to the land' will not solve humanity's problems, so in this way I think the two series are deeply different. I'm so fascinated with Butler's emphasis on 'change' as the only constant and using that as the basis for a new 'belief system', but I don't think this idea touches most people's emotions deeply enough to really be a belief system - and I was about to say that Atwood's approach seems more practical, but the deep pragmatism of 'change is the only real thing' is undeniable. So perhaps ultimately Atwood's vision would appeal to more people than Butler's because it is both pragmatic *and* more emotionally engaging. Just a couple thoughts off the top of my head, I could talk about this kind of thing all day so I better shut up now!
