Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is having a good January so far. Life has kind of gotten back to normal now. The days are noticeably longer in the afternoon now. That is heartening. Sorry this is a few days late getting out. I was skiing in Maine most of last midweek. I have several finishes.

I finished listening to The Impossible Fortune. I loved being back with these characters. I gave it four stars.

I also finished The Art of Spending Money: Simple Choices for a Richer Life. This book was only okay for me. It barely touched on what I was looking for (not the book's fault though). And it was not as compelling as the author's prior book The Psychology of Money: Timeless Lessons on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness. There were a few nuggets but most was not applicable to me.

I also finished a short story on my kindle The Last Father-Daughter Dance: A Short Story. I gave this four stars because it was better than average for a short story. It had a kind of strange abrupt ending (like the last 2 pages) and I'm not entirely sure whether the ending was a fake or real "event".

I am listening to North Woods for neighborhood book club next week. It is a quick (like 1.7x speed) reread. Just to refresh my memory of things.

Last night I started Soft Launch: A Coming-of-Adulthood Novel. But I read like 3 pages before getting too tired and I don't really remember anything so I will need to restart again!

QOTW:
I keep a Google doc list of all QOTW that I use and when. I have a couple links to "book questions" but I would love some ideas for new and fresh QOTW. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi all,

I'm not dead, see? Sorry I disappeared, thanks to Susan for keeping things going!

I just haven't been super active on goodreads in general aside from keeping books recorded.

I'll try to pop in more often!

This year I've read some shorties so far

Margo's Got Money Troubles - Technically i finished this up from last year, had about 100 some pages left. It's my january read for books and brews, meeting tomorrow. I really liked this, way more than I expected. Weird and quirky and lots of good and weird relationships showing the complications of family both biological and found.

Automatic Noodle - very cute cozy sci fi, also felt very fitting for the times. Lots of obvious frustration with the general state of things in America.

Verity Vox and the Curse of Foxfire - a cute cozy fantasy, I really liked Verity, I'm hoping the author eventually makes this a series. I'd like to read more of her.

What Stalks the Deep - Third of the Sworn Soldier books. This is finishing off my stack of library holds that all piled up at the end of last year. I liked it, but not as much as the previous two. Felt like things just kind of resolved on their own and pretty abruptly.

The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls- The core members of my book club do a TBR challenge separate of the book club itself. We basically make a goodreads shelf of books that we own but haven't gotten around to reading and put it in a spreadsheet and state how many books from the list we'd like to read this year. Then everyone else in the groups pick books from each others lists for each person to read to create a reading list. Helps whittle down books that we actually own, and helps get rid of decision paralysis when you just stand before your book shelf or scroll through kindle and can't decide which one to read. So this is the first one I picked off my tbr challenge list. I've owned it for years and never got around to it. I really enjoyed it, so glad I finally got through it!

Currently reading:

The Paid Bridesmaid - second book off tbr challenge. I don't even remember buying this one, but it was on my kindle. Might have been an Amazon first read or something like that. It's cute enough so far. Who knows when i'd have gotten to it, without a shove!

Witch King - doing an audio re-read since the next one is coming out soon. It's been long enough since I read this the first time I only vaguely remembered what went on. I'm glad I'm re-reading, bits are familiar like "yes, I read this", but I would have been VERY confused picking up the next one without a refresher.

QOTW: I admit I don't. Suppose we could always repeat old ones?
