Ruth | 11122 comments I have 2 poems in the latest issue of Eclectica. Since I gather that we’re no longer allowed to post links. I’ll just post them here.

Newscast

A window of light
stretches across the floor.

Eucalyptus trees lean
heavy with breeze.
The conditioner drones.

India bombs Pakistan.
A bus is blown to Paradise.

Our savings hang
unsteady

The freeway hums.
The sun shines
as it has to.

My Grandmother's Clock

Come the hour's chime
I can almost hear her.
Coffee grounds are good for ferns.
Never use black straight from the tube.

If you're making chicken salad,
veal is cheaper than chicken.
Don't use the knob to move the hands,
it mixes up the chimes.

Press the earth around the plant
to keep the air away from the roots.
Never go down to the main beach
and mix with the common people.

Dresden is the city for opera.
Glass looks best against the light.
Sometimes, in the middle
of the night I wake and hear her
alone in the dark.

Ruth | 11122 comments Thank you, Gina

message 4: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 872 comments That first poem is how I live my life now. Staying steady and taking care of my people - with intermittent doses of the real, frightening world.

I don't know if the second is autobiographical, but it's chilling.

Thanks for sharing, Ruth. You keep my love for poetry alive.

Robin P | 8 comments You should still be able to post links here. It’s only in messages- that is the emails within GR - that you can’t. Since we can’t send any direct messages anymore, it only affects Mods sending broadcast messages.

However, I appreciate that you posted your poems so we can all see them at once.
