Tawana Brawley
She accused 4-5 white men, some police officers of rape. It was determined to be untrue.

We can no longer direct message people in Goodreads. I "heard" it was because of harrassment.
Seems there could be a better way to handle this (Ever hear of a block button Goodreads?)
Some Mods are setting up dedicated emails for members to contact them. If this is something you would like let me know.
I promise I check my email regularly.
Just reply to this comment. Also, if anyone does contact me through this new email, I will keep any contact information from them confidential.

Ohhhhh, we already have a book or two here about her!
I am unclear whether a separate email would be anything but more work for Bel, but we can always exchange emails between friends depending on comfort level. Or we could just talk back and forth using group discussions? Oh, I dunno...I actually came here to say the Clodia Pulchrii now has her own shelf.

I know I posted my email on here once. I never got an email from anyone.

I dimly remember seeing it but honestly, there is so little discussion of any sort at this group...I have no idea why, but...I have just leaned on the fact that I could message you.

I did a search and it is in the Rules for Posting in the TC Released folders.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
I just created a folder for the discussions about what we are reading and watching. TC and other genres. I also put in the brand new thread Fishface made called DEALS DEALS DEALS.

As of yesterday, there is no more messaging option at Goodreads.I really wonder how many ppl got stalked or hacked or whatever here before they made that decision.
Because there might be a good TC book in it!!!
I just realized to my shock that we did not have a shelf for blackmail cases all this time. I made one but when I searched, all the books seemed to be about Jeffrey Epstein, who has his own shelf for obvious reasons. I am wondering if others know of any other such cases; John Mudie became the victim of the Chalk Pit murder because he was thought to be blackmailing his killer but nothing much else is coming to me.

I will be removing the Blackmail shelf and adding the books on it to the Extortion collection. Sheesh.
Hello everyone,I’m Leonardo, a criminology graduate and author from Italy. My main focus is serial homicide and the symbolic aspects of violent crime.
I’ve been studying true crime for years, so I’m glad to be here and read your discussions.

Nice to meet you, Leonardo!
P Diddy now has a shelf to himself. Unfortunately, the first book I wanted to add isn't in the dang database.
The Beaumont children now have their own shelf. I'm hesitating to add them to Murdered Siblings because no trace of them has been found.
Gisele Pelicot rather suddenly has her own shelf. When I learned she'd already published a memoir I looked in the database and there were probably a dozen books about her.
I was rather surprised to find that Anthony Bourdain, of all people, wrote a book about Typhoid Mary. I added it to the Typhoid Mary shelf, naturally. Apparently it's (in part) an expose about what went on in kitchens in her day, leading to modern health standards.

One of my favorite Youtubers did an episode about her. She is a very kind person (the Youtuber) and always researches the people she talks about extensively. It was very interesting.

i recieved a message from the Moderators Support group. They sent out a poll to see who is active and if you didn't answer the poll there would be consequences. The question was "We're interested in members' feedback on MSG and your participation. Please vote on your top reason for being a member. What ideas do you have to help us improve the site? Please make comments below."
I didn't read the question correctly and thought it was Why are you a member of Goodreads. So I answered. Then I started second guessing myself and went back and this time I read it correctly. So I commented on the thread that I was only in the MSG because I became a moderator but never commented because the people are rude and snarky.
We'll see how long I last.

Hello! Please delete if not allowed. I am currently a graduate student working on a research project about true crime with one of my professors. We are inviting all true crime lovers to take our survey. Your participation will involve answering questions about how often you engage with true crime media and how you feel about personal safety issues. We appreciate any and all responses. Thank you!
If you are unable to access the survey on the flyer, you can access it here: http://Tinyurl.com/TrueCrimeBSU
We are up to ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY-FIVE books on the Helter Skelter shelf. As far as I know there are no duplicates.(gasp)
Just wanted to express my seething rage at the fact that twice now I have tried to post a separate photo lineup of the victims of Coral Eugene Watts, and both times -- after I was satisfied that the photos had transferred and were going to stick properly -- the entire post vanished. I had the same problem with Gene Simmons and Randy Kraft. So irritating.
Crestfallen to learn that Linda May -- an elderly widow from Iowa who had a torture dungeon in her barn, human remains scattered hither and yon, and a notebook with a list of 17 people she apparently killed -- never really existed.

Someone texted me that. I just kind of thought it was awesome...
Pretty sure this is the first time this has happened to me. Someone mentioned on another platform that Rolf Harris, of all people, was a child molester, so naturally I went looking for a book about it. Google Assistant told me the title of a book on the subject, THE LIFE AND CRIMES OF ROLF HARRIS, by Colin Aris. I came here to look for it and there were all manner of books by that author, but none about Rolf Harris. Here at GR, the only book about it is by his defense attorney and argues that Harris was shafted by an inept police investigation, so it couldn't be the book Google Assistant described. So it got weirder from there because I wanted to look back at another Colin Aris book I noticed during that search. It seemed like it might be worth a read.
Colin Aris is suddenly NOT in the GR database.
Google says there is no such author.
Did I dream all of this? How do you serially dream about something while wide awake over the course of 2 days?
I just saw in the news that a new TC book is forthcoming about the WW2-era murder of Patsy Wylie. The author is Annie Kalotschke -- she is Patsy's niece-- and the title is going to be NEVER SPEAK OF ROPE.
Maury Travis rather suddenly has his own shelf. I thought to ask Google Assistant if there were any books about him and bam! 4 or 5 new titles.

Are these real books or books AI has made up?
