message 7: by Kacey Rai (new)

Kacey Rai | 131 comments Here in South Africa...

Its exam time..which really sucks. Here are some of the slang words we use, or call stuff:

1. Lus- I'm lus for chocolate cake, closest meaning is probably to crave something or want something.

2. we call traffic lights, robots.

3. Jell-o, is Jelly.

4. Backie (buck-ee)- pick up truck.

message 8: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) cool! I would like to go to Australia and South Africa..
Here in Indonesia, we're having our formatives (or at least my school...). We just went to a field trip to learn how to make compost!! i just had my biology test and i think i'm going to NOT succeed.

Random words:
*Ayam: chicken

message 10: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 185 comments I usually don't see Christmas decorations around where I live until Thanksgiving, but they are in stores right now. Anyway, I can't wait for Thanksgiving either, since it's my favorite holiday - I love turkey and all the other foods, not to mention a four-day weekend. I'm happy there's no school today either, because of Veterans Day. (It's not that I hate school, I just hate homework.)

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments I can't wait for people to start putting Christmas decorations up. Christmas is my favorite holiday, and I'm always in such a good mood in early winter.

School would be absolutely perfect if there were no homework.

message 13: by Kacey Rai (new)

Kacey Rai | 131 comments So...i've always wondered what subjects are offered at schools in other subjects.

At my school, in high school there are four compulsory subjects

English
Life Orientation
Afrikaans/ Sepedi as a 2nd language
Math/Maths literacy

then you can choose three more:

Geography
History
French
German
Physical Science
Biology
Art
Graphic Design
Information Technology
Computer Application Technology

i think thats it.

message 14: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) there's a guy in my exegesis class who speaks AFRIKAANS!!! its such a beautiful language!!! (and hes beautiful too!!!) :DD

message 15: by Girija (new)

Girija At my school these are the required courses:
english
language (spanish, french, german, or mandarin)
math
history(in my grade World History I)
science (in my grade biology)
and then we get to choose our arts from visual art, drama, vocal or band. we also get a free period or study hall everyday

In my grade we have very few options, but as you get older you have a lot more choices!

Its awesome. It one of the smallest, least populated capital cities in Australia, though it has an awesome night life, big city, green parklands. GOOGLE IT!!!

Any way, we dont celebrate Thanks-giving at all.

Subjects at my school are (this is for year 8):
English,
Humanities
Religion
Maths
Physical Education
Health,
Science
Technology
AN AN OPTION OF 2 FROM: Drama, art, design, music.
AND EITHER: French or Indonesian. (we call it INDO)...

Here is a link for a video of Australia's biggest sport, played only here:

exegesis is advanced Biblical studies, and it's where you study texts and passages to understand and figure out the literal meaning of it. so it's like looking at the Bible and figuring out what exactly everything means and finding its relevance and significance. it's a really really hard class!!

message 39: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) those are two things that i struggle with so much: languages and science. complex analytical things, haha. so the utmost of respect to you, madame rachel.
