So as a team, we need to figure out some prompts that we can all agree on for books. Anyone have any thoughts on how we should start tackling these?

Three of a Kind - Read 3 books that share one element (i.e., same setting)

Four of a Kind - Read 4 books connect by a theme (i.e., found family).

Full House - Read 3 books by the same author and 2 books by different authors in the same genre.

Small Straight - Read 4 books that gradually increases in page count or publication year.

Large Straight - Read 5 books in a single genre or series in order (i.e., #1-5, #1.5-5.5, #3-7, etc.).

Yahtzee! - Read 5 books that fit all one very specific prompt (i.e., books with celestial titles, books featuring libraries, books recommended by the same person, etc).

Three of a Kind - Read 3 books that share one element (i.e., same setting)
setting: NY, Texas, California, mountain town, beach or profession: LEO, doctor, lawyer, ME, professional athlete, teacher

Four of a Kind - Read 4 books connect by a theme (i.e., found family).
my first thought was romance trope ~ friends to lovers or enemies to lovers or 2nd chance, but we may need ideas that work across different genres

Full House - Read 3 books by the same author and 2 books by different authors in the same genre.
not sure of everyone's reading preference to suggest an author for the 3 book

Small Straight - Read 4 books that gradually increases in page count or publication year.
I think either of these will be good, but maybe page count would be easier

Large Straight - Read 5 books in a single genre or series in order (i.e., #1-5, #1.5-5.5, #3-7, etc.).
If we choose genre: Romance, Mystery, Horror are my votes~ Although I think series since the numbers could work no matter the genre

Yahtzee! - Read 5 books that fit all one very specific prompt (i.e., books with celestial titles, books featuring libraries, books recommended by the same person, etc).
since yahtzee deals with numbers, how about a book with a number in the title?

message 22: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 6327 comments Mod
I agree with a lot of your choices Shan!

Three of a Kind - Read 3 books that share one element (i.e., same setting) - NY, Chicago or DR, lawyer, professional athlete

Four of a Kind - Read 4 books connect by a theme (i.e., found family). friends to lovers or enemies to lovers or 2nd chance, found family or single parent (mom or dad)

Full House - Read 3 books by the same author and 2 books by different authors in the same genre. I read anything romance so I would probably be good. Maybe we give our favorites and then we choose from that. For genre, I would pick romance

Small Straight - Read 4 books that gradually increases in page count or publication year. I also think page count might be easier for this one

Large Straight - Read 5 books in a single genre or series in order (i.e., #1-5, #1.5-5.5, #3-7, etc.). If we go with genre, I would also say Romance or mystery/suspense, but I do think that series in order might be easier

Yahtzee! - Read 5 books that fit all one very specific prompt (i.e., books with celestial titles, books featuring libraries, books recommended by the same person, etc). I could go with a number in a title, or we could do something like books with a specific number of words in the title, or titles that are a certain number of characters?

Apologies for the delay - the teams spreadsheet has been added to message 1 on this thread.

message 30: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 6327 comments Mod
Ok, ya'll. The spreadsheet makes this make so much more sense I think. I think I was overthinking how we would coordinate and post stuff.

The top portion, I think we should just take the spot that our book fits.

Then for the bottom portion, once we agree on what we are going for, that will also be easy to fill in I think.

Ok, I posted the two books I've finished and added them to the spreadsheet.

Is everyone ok with using page count for small straight?

Anything else we can lock down for the lower half choices? I can prioritize some authors if we choose that for one, or even genres.

Ok, let's do the following:

Full House - Rebecca Yarros for the author and Romance for the genre with

Small Straight - let's do page count since I think that's easiest

Large Straight - let's do series order

Now we just have to agree on the other three lol. I'll update the spreadsheet with these three choices

Shan ~A~ | 737 comments Amanda wrote: "Have we decided on what page count were starting with?"

Could we just move things around as we get more books? Let's say I read a book that's 500 pgs today and put it there, but tomorrow someone read 498 pgs, both would work we'd just have to swap them on the spreadsheet? Or maybe the placement doesn't matter as long as we have book with page numbers that gradually increase?

Let me know if I understand the task wrong or if someone has a better way to do this.

I don't think we need to get that specific. Just make sure that we increase the page count.
