Wof Anna MAll of Us Murderers
Prompt: Read a book where the main character gets into a sticky situation and everything goes sideways
When Zeb Wyckham is summoned to a wealthy relative's remote Gothic manor, he is horrified to find all the people he least wants to see in the world: his estranged brother, his sneering cousin, and his bitter ex-lover Gideon Grey. Things couldn't possibly get worse.
And of course it does, soon Zeb has to run for his life, literally. I'm familiar with this author and as usual enjoyed her book. It's a mix of genres gothic mystery historical romance and it would be a ghost story if not for main character refusing to believe in vengeful ghosts and seeing it as a malicious prank. Now whatever he isnright or not, I'll not tell as it would be a spoiler 😁 However his and Gideons refusal to be frightened by spooks is amusing, they're just not bothered. In one spooky scene 🕷 a character is like, Oh, I'm not having this. Oh no. Enough. It made me laugh.
- WoF: Lynn- Book: The Sideways Life of Denny Voss
- Prompt: Read a book where the main character gets into a sticky situation and everything goes sideways
- My thoughts: Author did a great job of tackling some serious subjects with a light touch and heartfelt moments, using a fabulous cast of characters.
Laura apenandzen Dog on It
Dog sled races - mischievous dog
I thought this was a great book. A lot of quiet, subtle humor and some interesting observations about people and situations from a dog’s POV. Maybe Spencer Quinn was a dog in a past life? He makes it very believable.
I see Chet (the POV dog) as a loyal and brave friend most of all, but he definitely has a mischievous side, for example, he would save up his urine so he could lift his leg on certain properties of ppl he maybe didn’t like as much lol.
He was also (view spoiler)
WoF - AnushaDog on It
Dog-sled races. Read a book with a mischievous dog in the story
Chet was an interesting, funny dog. The author did an amazing job writing from Chet's perspective. Chet displays various instances where he shows his mysterious side, for example, with Capt'n Crunch, where he intends to attack him, growling and reacting to his environment without his knowledge until Bernie brings it to his notice, his extreme love for tearing apart leather items, and burying his treasured bones in the backyard.
WoF JaymeBook: The Sideways Life of Denny Voss by Holly Kennedy
Prompt: Read a book where the main character gets into a sticky situation and everything goes sideways
I enjoyed this sweet, but heavy story about a neurodivergent man who is accused of murder. The people who surround Denny really make the story with their very human reactions and fierce loyality. There were several laugh-out-loud moments - I'm looking at you Tom Hanks and even a few times I became teary eyed. 4 stars.
WoF: LeslieBook: City of Likes
Prompt: Read a book with a bathtub on the cover
I find the life of influencers both baffling and fascinating. This story shows the sway they have over people and a peek behind the curtain on how much is real and how much "influencing" is just a show.
WoFSharonBiskitI read Harvest, T.G. Brown
Prompt: Bathtub races. Read a book with a bathtub on the cover.
I have had this book on my TBR forever. It is the second book in the Josh Ingram Series. I found it engrossing and well written. I read the first book and will probably read the third.
Josh is reunited with an old flame and partner, Rachel. He is helping her search for a killer who gruesomely murders people (women) who were witnesses or somehow connected to his trial for which he spent time in prison. There is also a religious sect that causes problems and could be connected.
WoF AlmetaPosthumous Education
Read a book with author or character name Fred, Freddie.
Fred, the Vampire Accountant
This is #8 in the series, MPG Humor (among others). The series is always good for a smile or two. Ridiculous premises and amusing supernatural characters.
WoF JaniceI read Swamp Santa for the Smoosh racing prompt. Something always goes sideways in this series, and it's usually Celia's underpants being exposed. This time, not only did she end up butt out, but face down in some cow pies. What else can you expect when you have live livestock at a Santa Claus pagent? And then there's Gerties explosive purse.

Yep! Typical for a Miss Fortune mystery. Lol!
WoFame HeatherEMSThe Puzzle Master
Read a book where the MC gets into a sticky situation
The MC is brilliant at solving puzzles and gets pulled into the middle of an old murder mystery when he's asked to visit with a prisoner who doesn't speak, but who has created a puzzle that the inmate psychologist can't solve. Intrigued, Mike Brink reluctantly visits and finds himself in the middle of a centuries old quantum physics puzzle that has ramifications within other realms. A sticky situation indeed!
Bonus, could use for the year-long challenge bc the main character is named Michael! This was a fun 4-star read for me.
WoF KatrisaI read Mort for the sticky situation prompt. In this book Mort becomes Death's apprentice and in true Pratchett fashion much hijinks ensues. The audiobooks for the older Discworld books were recently rereleased so I have been revisiting the series.
WoF: KristieLink to book: Soldiers of Fortune
Prompt: Read a book where the main character gets into a sticky situation and everything goes sideways. - The Miss Fortune series was one of the examples given. Things always go very sideways in this series.
Reactions: This was a typical installation for the series. It was funny and a quick, easy read. I really enjoy this series because you don't need to think too much. It is pretty far-fetched and you just need to go along for the ride. I had a good time reading it.
WoF - JennFinlay Donovan Jumps the Gun
Prompt: Read a book where the main character gets into a sticky situation and everything goes sideways.
I love Finlay lol Between her and Vero, I don't know who is really the bigger trouble magnet, and their banter is fantastic. How many amateur assassins find themselves going to sleepaway cop camp to hide from the mob??? I keep forgetting how much I love this series lol
