I would love to recommend Where Shadows Bloom, it’s a sapphic Romantasy with castles, knights, and monsters 💫

Heartstopper, this is just a memoir but The Half Of It by Madison Beer, The Star-Crossed series by Rachel Higginson (underrated author), My Blood Approves by Amanda Hocking, and that's all i can think of

message 32: by Sonel (new)

Sonel Jami | 307 comments When Haru was here by Dustin Thao is what I would recommend :) see, it’s not just because the book is about a gay couple but also because the main character is like an INFP personality. Reality hits him hard yet he finds ways to stay sane and that includes creating an imaginary friend Haru, who was actually a real person whom Eric (the main character) meets one fine summer in Japan. I found it relatable how he’s so imbued with sadness and yet he found ways to cope from it in his own ways despite the ‘imaginary friend’ scenario is mentally unhealthy in its own way. Also, the book makes the reader feel like they are lost and have no direction in life yet it’s alright because it feels like a summer afternoon where you don’t have to figure everything out because there’s still time :)

will | 89 comments I recommend They Both Die at the End (warning: it’s heartbreaking)

Lily Belle [Might as well just die.] | 351 comments Mod
I recommend The Sea Witch!! it's not really LGBTQ but it's really good

message 37: by Atlas (new)

Atlas L | 9 comments I recommend the Sunbearer duology by Aiden Thomas. It's like Percy Jackson meets Hispanic mythology, and I really enjoyed the LGBTQ rep. The two books are titled The Sunbearer Trials and Celestial Monsters.

message 38: by Courtney (new)

Courtney ♡ | 86 comments I recommend The deed of Paksenarrion. It’s about an asexual female solider who eventually becomes a religious paladin and helps fight evil. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s really good.

message 40: by PJ (new)

PJ | 7 comments I recommend Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. it's my second favorite gay romance (second to Heartstopper)

message 41: by will (new)

will | 89 comments Ooh I watched the movie based off that! It’s rly good

message 42: by Sol (new)

Sol | 1 comments LGBTQ+ Classics! (note: these being written when they were, there unfortunately aren't any happy endings. And the "lesbian vampires/demons" are not good girlfriends, and also those have an undertone of "see she's seducing her behold the monstrosity of lesbianism" which can be... trying, to say the least. Once I reread "The Deep Dark" and "The Hymn to Dionysus" I'll recommend some happier, YA ones.)

1. "Carmilla" by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. Written in 1872, the novella is widely recognized as the original lesbian vampire story.

2. "Christabel" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This is a narrative poem told in two parts very similar to "Carmilla." Unfortunately, Mr. Coleridge never got around to writing the other 3 parts before he passed, so although it wraps up considerably well, it's unfinished.

3. "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. Unlike the previous two, this is not a lesbian vampire story! In short, Basil is head over heels, and Lord Henry made me really mad because he has some OPINIONS that are... questionable. Still, a great book!

Meghan Reads MM (mm_reads) | 1 comments Hello everyone!
Any group that promotes queer teen reading is excellent in my eyes!

FYI, the YA LGBT group bookshelf has 1,775 books on it. People can belong to multiple groups for the same topics. :)

Out of curiosity, do y'all feel like the terminology is changing a lot? I am an older adult (54) without teenagers, so not really hooked into the language evolution of the teens right now.

Happy reading!

message 44: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 42 comments Anyone have a YA or little spice (doesn’t look spicy) book that is autumn / fall themed??

message 45: by Courtney (new)

Courtney ♡ | 86 comments The pumpkin spice cafe books? I haven't read them, but I've seen them lying around in our local bookstore. (they are apparently not YA, tho.)

message 46: by Courtney (new)

Courtney ♡ | 86 comments What books do all of you read for comfort? I really like a manga called Ako and Bambi because I relate to a lot of the characters and love the cozy vibe it has.
I’m curious to know what other people read when they need something affirming or just generally chill like that?

message 47: by Logan (new)

Logan | 1 comments O-ky soooooo…. I just joined the group. I’m Lolo, they/them. I love fantasy, romance, and obviously queer books. Idk if you’ve ever heard of “Always Raining Here.” Haha, I think it’s honestly a pretty good book!

message 48: by Courtney (new)

Courtney ♡ | 86 comments Hi Lolo! I searched it up and it looks really cute, I honestly might see if I can get a copy. :)

message 49: by Oliveee (new)

Oliveee | 5 comments Hii I’m Olivia, I just joined! My favorite queer books are Sunburn and Giovanni’s Room! The first one is sapphic, and it’s a coming-of-age novel about a girl falling in love with her classmate. The second is a book written in the 1950s by James Baldwin, it’s really sad but it’s incredible!!
Honestly I haven’t read that many queer books, so I’m also looking for recommendations but those two are my favourites :)
