There are two types of readers: those who have their literary life mapped out for the next six months, and those who wait for a spine to "speak" to them in the stacks. Are you a planner or a mood reader?

Julie Grindal (julesgrin) | 203 comments Oh, it’s all about grabbing a random book and any random time for me.

However, the grabbing is 95% done from the extensive list of books to be read that I have reviewed just enough to see if “my reader doppelgänger peeps” have given it the thumbs up or the thumbs down. Books can be there for 4/5 years before I chose them and try to recall where, who, where this book ended up on my list. I have largely given up trying, so if you recommended a book and never heard back if I liked it, sorry.

The other 5% is perhaps more random. A few stars must align. It happens when I get lost on Goodreads and randomly found something that spoke to me. AND Libby had it available at that moment. OR I get lost on Goodreads and randomly found something that spoke to me while my hold list has run down to just one book. Then that random selection ends up in the holds Que and is must closer to being read than most on my TBR list, which is the reason it only gets bigger, never smaller.

This is kinda how my life has been lived. Huh, coincidental. Thank John for the personality profile type of question. I can skip therapy this week. 😉

Dawn (dawnella77) | 194 comments Both - I have a list of books I plan to read and then I also go into a bookstore and select a book by random browsing. I also look at friend’s recommendations of books.

Stephen (stoyle64) | 3 comments I've got about 15 books loaded and ready to go on my Kobo. As soon as I finish one I will select the next based on my mood. Do I want a serious, heavy read? Perhaps something lighter? Fantasy? Thriller? I usually have a couple of each genre so it's just a matter of picking the right one.

Wendy (lilacwest) | 55 comments Both. I read several books at once, and I have a spreadsheet that lists what books will be next when I finish a specific book. But I also occasionally get a mood to start up a certain book. (I own a lot of books).
