Looks like I'll be reading J.A. Jance's novels in 2010. I picked up Cruel Intent, #4 in J.A. Jance's Ali Reynolds series, not realizing it was a series. So, I went to the library today & found Hand of Evil. Now I find that is #3 & I still need to get Web of Evil and Edge of Evil. I wasn't too lost in Cruel Intent. I hate it when I start a series in the middle & then can't find the first book.
LOL! I hear ya! What irritates me the most is picking up an anthology with a series story in the middle of it and I haven't read the series. Argh! Sometimes it doesn't pay to be so anal about book order but I am. I haven't read any of Jance's novels yet but Until Proven Guilty in my tbr. I've heard good things though.
Ya, I thoroughly enjoyed her style. But Cruel Intent was my first foray into her novels. I've had them on my TBR list for months. We were on vacation & had stopped at a Wal-Mart for a map. Of course, that put us on the book aisle. Not a safe place for me to be, LOL
Love your ladybugs (my nickname for my daughter is CaiteeLadyBug). I totally understand about the book aisle in stores. My kids will block the entrance on me if they see that my feet automatically take me there, they seem to have figured out my madness and like an alcoholics sponsor run interference. I just don't get it though, I don't have a problem, really, I don't. What was that old literacy commercial again...Reading is Fundamental? I just can't get enough. lol
When I was little & got lost in a store, my mom would just go to the book aisle & there I'd be, sitting on the floor reading a book. My older son is 24 now & we still find him in the book section of a store. We find my younger son in electronics.
I'm with you both! I love the book aisle or the bookstore. My boss always laughs at me when I want a "me" afternoon off. He knows I'll be at B & N curled up with a cuppa and a book.Renee wrote: I hate to ask a stupid question but here goes. How do you update the ticker, as you go.
The ticker is actually a link and when you click on your link it takes in into your ticker. There you enter your password that you had to choose when you created it and then you can update it through there. Hope that makes sense. :)

I actually like her series about J.P.Beaumont the best. That might be partially due to its Seattle setting since I live nearby in Olympia, WA. Beaumont is a Seattle homicide detective who reminds me a bit of Columbo as he's a unique non-conformist who walks through life on his own path. You might pick up the first couple and give them a try.
Renee, I wondered the same thing about the ticker! Thanks for the info Collette. I was hoping once I started using it I'd be able to figure it out ;-)
Beaumont is my favorite Jance book also, though I really like the Joanna Brady and Ali Reynolds series, too. I think anytime you can picture the setting, it helps in reading the book. I was born in Seattle and raised in the area. I've read all the Sue Grafton ones, and love them too -- currently I am reading U is for Undertow.
I love Sue Grafton. Sadly, I still need to read "T"!! I just bought "U", so I'm planning to read both of them in January. You know you're behind when even your favorites are in the TBR pile ...
LOL, you know you're behind when even your favorites are in the TBR pile ... so true. I went to the bank the other day & one of my favorite tellers was huddled in the corner of her booth with a book. The bank wasn't busy that day. Another teller had helped me & on the way out I saw her. I stopped & asked what she was reading, "U" is for Undertow. I told her I was going to start reading Sue Grafton's series. She told me to be sure to start at A :)I sat up until 4 a.m. the other night reading #3 in the Ali Reynolds series, Hand of Evil. I didn't even read the end of the book. I was hooked from the get-go on that book.
Last night I was trying to figure out how I was going to read 144 books in 2010. My DH looked at me like I was crazy, LOL
Rayni's plan for 2010Ok, I've been thinking how I can do this & get 144 books in a year. 12 books at a book a month.

A suggestion for "B" might be Miranda Bliss ~ she has a series of cozy mysteries..I cant remember? if you read cozies?

Okay. Time for another stupid question. How do you create one? Every time I go to the site all I get are ovulating tickers and charts lol.
Hey Melissa, thx for the suggestion. Bliss is going in my new authors mini challenge. Since it is a series, I'll have to fit the rest of her books in another category.
Lenore, when you go to Ticker Factory, there is a sidebar on the left with some choices. However, I didn't bother with that because there are categories in the main box. I went down to Crafts/Hobbies & just below that it says Objects/Actions Counter. The description says, "Track your books ...." Try that.
there is also Suzanne Brockmann for B. She does Romantic Suspense with Navy SEALs. Her books are my favorites. Also if you like cozies Cleo Coyle writes a great coffee house series. And Maddy Hunter if you can find any of her series (I had to get some at a ubs) her's a great and alot of fun. I know someone else who tried it by each letter of the alphabet one year I don't remember how far she got.
Hey thx for the recommendations. I have not heard of any of those authors, so I'm adding them to my "New Author" challenge. Who knows how far I'll get on any of my challenges, but I'm going to try. I'm going to have to start turning the computer off early, LOL, to get any reading done.
So, this morning I got to bed at 5:28, according to my DH, I turned the light off at 5:20, according to the clock in the living room. zzzzzz, I am so tired tonight.

Oh, NOOOOOO! I looked at the link you provided & I think I'm hooked before I even pick up one of her books, LOL. Thx, I'm definitely adding her. :)
I put a note on my cell phone so that I can have the new author names handy so I can start looking for them.

Thats a good idea, ( to put a note on your cell phone..) hadnt thought of that ~ :)
A friend of mine has written all of her books that she has read../and wants to read, in a medium size notebook that fits in her purse.. ( to avoid getting duplicates..) :)
Catherine wrote: "Melissa, I've read all of Monica Ferris's books, I love them!"I love Monica Ferris's books also..I have read 3 or 4 of them..and have a couple more on to be read shelf. :)
I used to cross stitch, so I like the needlecraft setting.
I don't cross-stitch. I just started learning to knit. I just really like the coziness of the books.
Couldn't find any Ferris books at the library :(I used to knit & I used to cross-stitch & needlepoint, as well as crochet & sew. I don't do anything like that anymore. I used to read A LOT, I have picked that up again though, reading, just not a lot.

Rayni,...I cant remember ~..are you a member of paperbackswap? I think, I have a Monica Ferris book on my PBS shelf.
No, I'm not a member. I checked it out when you told me about it Melissa, but I can't remember why I didn't join.
I've been plodding through Sue Grafton's book "A" is for Alibi. I blogged about it & my best friend told me that I didn't like this book when it was brand new out. Now she tells me. All these years when I resisted Sue Grafton, I had forgotten I had already tried her book. Perhaps I ought to give her a true second chance & read something besides "A" is for Alibi.I went through & cleared out all of Grafton's books from my Alphabetic by Title challenge. I may still do it, but not with Sue Grafton's books.
Rayni wrote: "No, I'm not a member. I checked it out when you told me about it Melissa, but I can't remember why I didn't join."If you have any questions about paperbackswap..just send me a message ~ I would be glad to help. :)
I signed up for a program at our local library called, "Let's Talk About It." This year the theme is I Am What I Eat or You Are What You Eat, not sure. I got a packet with 5 books, all on food subjects. The first book is an anthology that I put in my Dewey Decimal challenge, category 800 - Literature. Choice Cuts, by Mark Kurlansky. Argh, I have to have it finished by next Thursday, 1/27. I don't know if I'm going to make it. I went in on the state's web site & printed the worksheet for this book. I hope it helps. I've never been to one of these lectures, so I don't know what to expect. There are 3 memoirs, one novel & this anthology & we meet every 2 weeks into March.
Rayni wrote: "January total: 4 read; 3 in process"I tried to finish up 2 books this weekend...didnt quite finish them..
LOL, I sat down Sunday afternoon determined I was going to finish one of the four books I had in process. I did, but barely. So, I still have four books in process. I finished one, am still reading the same 3 & started 1 more. Actually, the one I started, I had started reading & laid down, but had to read it from the first to get the momentum going again.
