Rosemary | 4793 comments Here's the place for your Spring 2026 questions that don't fit anywhere else.

message 2: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5409 comments I have a poll question ------- for poll one April Showers, can the shower refer to a person taking a shower or must it be rain?

message 3: by Rosemary (last edited Feb 17, 2026 04:44PM) (new)

Rosemary | 4793 comments Just to find the word "shower" in the text would be fine. Plurals and possessives work, no other variations.

Ok, it looks like that choice will be big on combos then!

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 104 comments How does verification work for finding words in text in audiobooks? Can it be in title?

message 6: by Apple (new)

Apple | 1166 comments As an avid audio by listener I do one of two things - make a note at the time, or find a text copy online and do a search and copy from there.

You don’t need to reference the page, just supply the quote.

I was thinking about using time stamps. Thanks, Apple!

Denise | 1964 comments Does anyone know how to view the genre shelvings of a book when there is no “more” and “show all” link? This would be for finding the number of shelvings for a particular genre.

Example: Erma Bombeck: A Life in Humor by Susan Edwards

Genres listed are Biography, Humor, and Nonfiction. The book has only 144 ratings, and there is no way to see if Humor could drop off.

I’m sure I’m missing something really obvious.

I couldn't see a way, either. But you'll be okay with Humor for that one as it's there now and you've locked it in on the task thread.

Okay, thank you!

Denise | 1964 comments On the 1001 spreadsheet, under column J, there are books that are marked "Deleted 2008." Can they still be used?

message 12: by Rosemary (last edited Mar 01, 2026 09:19AM) (new)

Rosemary | 4793 comments Yes! There are different editions, so there are actually over 1300 '1001' books. You can use them all.

message 13: by Denise (new)

Denise | 1964 comments Thank you!

message 14: by Denise (new)

Denise | 1964 comments Group reads choice: The Grand Banks Café by Georges Simenon

message 15: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 3412 comments No surprise from me.... since I said if I get to pick a group read this book would be it when I posted in the task thread:

When the Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzén

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1769 comments A Flower Traveled in My Blood by Haley Cohen Gilliland
With a trigger warning. There are some difficult topics mentioned in this book.
If you would prefer a different selection, I can send another one, but this was the best book that I read last season by far.

message 17: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 2361 comments Group Read Choice: The Warehouse by Rob Hart
mystery-thriller with a bit of science fiction
I've read 2 books by Rob Hart (so far!) and both were 5 star reads for me

That's fine - we've included the trigger warning in the list.

Thank you all for your group read choices! The list is now complete.

Denise | 1964 comments I’m not sure where to post this, but to qualify Susan Edwards for Aged style (born 1948), here is her viaf file:

https://viaf.org/en/viaf/50959966

She has two books listed under “Works”

message 20: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) | 1970 comments I'm excited to start planning with the 10 and 20 point tasks. It would be very helpful to have a planning thread for it. Thanks for your help.

message 21: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 4793 comments Denise, this is the right place to ask. Are you planning to read one of those two books? Because VIAF has at least one other author called Susan Edwards, born later.

Connie, thanks for the reminder! The thread is now up.

Yes, I am reading Erma Bombeck: A Life in Humor.

Her year of birth is listed in the copyright information in the book. I could post a screenshot if I knew how?
Sorry, I should have listed the book when I first posted!

message 24: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 4793 comments That's fine, Denise. The VIAF listing confirms it for that book, and I think we'd accept you finding it in the book, too!

message 25: by Denise (new)

Denise | 1964 comments Thank you, Rosemary!

message 26: by Claire (new)

Claire | 387 comments Rosemary, if you read a second book for task 1, can you still claim the 5 points for multiple?

Yes!

message 28: by Rebekah (last edited Mar 27, 2026 09:17PM) (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 104 comments Are graphic novels strictly comic book format, where every page is illustrated and the dialogue is in balloons over characters’ heads or is there more than one form that combines text with graphic illustrations? The book I’m thinking about is Thor & Loki: Epic Tales from Marvel Mythology by Delilah S. Dawson Thor & Loki Epic Tales from Marvel Mythology by Delilah S. Dawson

message 29: by Apple (new)

Apple | 1166 comments Hell no! It is anything designated graphic novel on good reads. A lot of what I read are not much like that. I can’t tag anything as I am on my phone, but we are GR friends, so you should see on my recent reads Feeding Ghosts and my current read Woman, Life Freedom. So very far from the bubble dialogue illustration scenario a lot of us, ahem, older readers think of as graphic novels.

When I first started reading them I was amazed at the huge diversity of what is available now, narratively as well as artistically.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 639 comments Looking at the Readerboard, you are showing me with 60 points. I am showing 65. It looks like I did not get the 5 points for multiple on Task 10.1. post 269. I don't see where you posted a problem with it, so I am a little confused as to what I did wrong.

That's Joanna with 60 points! I'll be scoring 251-290 today.

Claire | 387 comments I have read a book with no English edition. It has been published in Spanish, German and Dutch. Which edition should I use?
It is important ad my edition is over 100 pages and so are the international ones, but some Dutch editions are a bit under 100 pages

You would use the printed edition that has the most ratings.

message 35: by Claire (new)

Claire | 387 comments Okay, thank you.

Owlette | 774 comments For the mods: the RwS Quick Link to BPL goes to a site with a banner to an up-to-date link for BPL. I was looking for a book and found it, but what do you think of the new layout for finding books and identifying whether they are on assignment? I wonder if they still use that designation. Thank you.

message 38: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 4793 comments They do still use it. It works a little differently, but you need to find all the print editions for the title in the new catalogue, and then check them. They tend to combine more copies together, so I think it's easier after you get used to it.

message 39: by Owlette (new)

Owlette | 774 comments Okay. Thanks for checking. Good to know that the new BPL layout seemed easier to you.

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1769 comments It looks like you didn’t expect any questions on 10.1. Leave it to us RWS’ers to come up with one!

I have read River of Renewal: Myth and History in the Klamath Basin with a first publication date of 2024.
But Goodreads has a first edition listed separately River of Renewal with a date of 2006.
Which date would you like me to use?

I've combined those. The first publication date of 2006 is the one to use.

Thanks!

That's fine - I have updated his Goodreads profile.
