I named a character Noctis once. It’s from a final fantasy game I’ll admit but it seems quite dark but also like….cool I don’t know
Kade
Lane
Westley
Bentley
Maverick
Ryatt
Reed
Beckett
Waylon
Pick your top 4 then 2 and see which goes best (or do a dice roll)

Do a dice roll for top 4 then pick your 2 favorites and see which goes best, or if there’s a clear winner then use that!
You can 100% pick not from my list

mh hi, I have to find a name for the main enemy of my story who is also the mentor of my protagonists but I can't find anything that isn't too obvioushas anyone some ideas??
Here are some ideas! No pressure to choose any!
The "Revered/Wise" Sounding Name (Twisted Mentor)
These sound like someone you would trust with your life, making the betrayal harder.
Malachai Thorne: Sounds ancient and wise, but has a sharp edge.
Silas Vane: Soft, intelligent sounding, but "Vane" implies vanity/emptiness.
Cyprian Rook: Sounds like a high-ranking official or philosopher.
Alaric Voss: Strong, commanding, and historically resonant.
Theron Kane: Simple, strong, and slightly harsh in the second syllable.
The "Subtle/Nurturing" Sounding Name (Gaslighting Mentor):
These sound kind, gentle, or poetic, making their malice unexpected.
Elian Croft: Gentle, soft, but feels like a hidden trap.
Julian Graves: Sounds academic, perhaps a bit melancholic, yet sinister.
Cassian Vale: Sounds like a poet or a healer.
Adrian Thorne: Classic, respectable, but with a sharp undertone.
Lucian Cade: "Lucian" brings to mind light (a common trope for dark mentors), but "Cade" implies a cage.
The "Abstract/Symbolic" Name:
These rely on hidden meanings or a slight dissonance.
Verity Vance: "Verity" means truth—how ironic for a villain who lies.
Corvus: Latin for raven/crow. Sounds distinguished, but associated with ill omens.
Soren Locke: "Locke" implies they are holding the secrets or keeping the protagonist trapped.
Vesper: Meaning evening/darkness, but sounds like a sophisticated name.
Kaelen Shade: A soft name, with the darkness hidden in the surname.
Gender-Neutral/Androgynous Ideas:
Rylan Vane
Devon Rook
Sage Valerius (Using "Sage" as a first name to imply wisdom)

Y'all ever name a character without thinking when you first create them, then later as the story develops their name becomes incongruent with those around them? Cuz I am and it's driving me literally crazy. I've been on the name hunt for this kid character I have for genuinely years now. His name is Dakota at the moment, but I've moved towards more Italian/Spanish/Portuguese sounding names since then and I cannot for the life of me find one that I like for him that doesn't sound too grown up or idk, fancy/elaborate-sounding. He's got a very rambunctious personality, is around seven, and his parents were very unprepared to have him. I don't know if that helps narrow down a vibe at all but hey, can't hurt right? If anyone has any suggestions they would be much, MUCH appreciated bc I'm just slamming my head against a wall trying to figure this out at this point TvT
