David (primemover) Oh no! President Obama bowed! What next?!

Emily (emilyamazingxx) | 2237 comments I don't really see how it's a bad thing. In Japan/China/etc. it's customary and respectful to bow.

message 3: by David (new)

David (primemover) No, that's all conservatives. Not just Republicans.

My dad's a Republican >.< Egh.

message 5: by David (new)

David (primemover) Poor you. My Dad's on the fence. "If you straddle the fence, all you're going to get is a wedgie." My mom's left, but not left enough. She believes in God and religious tolerance.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

My dad & his wife are Republicans. My mom & her fiance are undecided. Mostly because they don't know anything and don't bother to find out.

message 8: by Dan (new)

Dan If stupid conservative pundits make a big deal out of something, a stadium full of Joe the plumber types will emerge who believe it really is a big deal, and who will act like they've always been against it, whatever it is.

message 10: by Amber (new)

Amber (iceapple95) | 79 comments I think our government is kind of twisted as it is. I mean yeah, we have a stronger one than some, but the system is majorly flawed. We can't even reach all of our own people before going into other countries to attempt to settle their problems. We need to settle our own first.

message 11: by David (new)

David (primemover) Exactly. It's not our bussiness. We have no right to go into a sovereign country. Afghanistan was justified up to the point that Osama hid in the mountains. We're never going to find him, so let's stop wasting our lives and killing civilians, and get out. This is Vietnam all over again.

message 12: by Amber (new)

Amber (iceapple95) | 79 comments Very true. Other countries have problems but we do too. It's really kind of ridiculous to go and tell other countries how to act when we have the same amount of issues or more. It's not that I don't hate other countries having wars or fighting, it's just not helping by going in there and staying. I get helping out a country who's an ally, but we can't stay there forever.

message 13: by jessi (new)

jessi (infinitevantage) | 437 comments I think it's much more complicated than all that. We are not just there trying to find Osama. He is probably not there anymore. We are helping to secure Afghanistan and train Afghanis so that they can have a proper government and not corruption/the Taliban.

message 14: by David (new)

David (primemover) It's simply not our bussiness. Even so, we are viewed as enemies, how are we supposed to make progress?

I know. It's never simple. Still in some situations we need tok get ourselves out.

Our foreign policy is based around building democracy in other nations. If we leave now we'll only end up going back in 10 or 20 years. Desert storm? we left and 10 years later we were right back in.

I'm not saying the wars are justified, because their not but I believe we should stay. At least until their stable enough, and truthfully we'll never truly be gone. I mean we have 820 military bases in about 40 countries.

If the Afgahn and Iraqi governments asked us to leave, we would leave. They want our help to stablize their area.

We do have problems of our own but we have a reputation for helping unstable parts of the world or parts of the world in need. If we just leave the middle east, that could be looked at as prejudicial. We've spent decades in europe, asia, africa, south america, and australia; if we just pulled out of the Middle East it would look like we don't care as much about them as we do the rest of the world.

The civilians of those countries smile when they see american soldiers because they know they're there to help them as much as those soldiers can. yes those are those minority few civilians who truly hate them and then go kill them but again, they are in the minority of the Iraqi and Afgahn public.

Sorry for the long post :P I know what yall are saying and I agree that we should leave, I just don't think we should leave yet. Does that make sense?

I get all that. It's just that we need to be helping our own country. I love the fact that we can halp stabalize other nations but we need to stand firm on our feet as a nation. And, I reallly hate the fact that we can't have world peace. It seems impossible but really, I mean fighting wars is just trying to see who will win. We could do it in a totally different way if we wanted to. My mom always suggests some sort of video game to 'battle out our issues'. Now i'm not saying that would work, but I am saying that war in itself is pointless. People die everyday in wars, most not even making a point. I just don't feel that it's neccecery that our country has been at war for so long. People from all countries should be working towards peace and working together. We don't need kids these days growing up to hate a certain nationality or people. I agree with you on the fact that many people, in countries we are helping, do want our help. It's just the radicals who hate us and want us dead. And sometimes that all goes back to religious beliefs which doesn't make anything easier on anyone.

That was also really long but i'm just making a point.

*cracking up* Wow, you sure are optimistic and happy to crush someones opinion. I already mentioned that this one isn't mine. And you must admit that if this were a war-free world, it would be much better.

message 19: by Amber (new)

Amber (iceapple95) | 79 comments And were supposing that weapons would have been destroyed, not kept hidden.

Nobody would ever do that.

message 21: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments No, nobody would. But it's a cool idea. Us idiots can dream :)

message 22: by Dan (new)

Dan And you must admit that if this were a war-free world, it would be much better.

Well yes, the world would probably be better without war. Not necessarily, though. For example, if the entire world population was kept under the thumb of a single dictator, with no means to fight for their independence, there would be "world peace," but this would not necessarily be preferable to a world where people are fighting for their freedom.

But anyway, this warless world will not be achieved via videogames. That idea is plainly stupid.

message 23: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments It's stupid, but pleasant.

Not everything has to make sense.

message 24: by Dan (new)

Dan would it be better for there to be one world government?

It depends entirely on the nature of the government. The world would be better if the divisions that spark conflicts - national, tribal, religious, ethnic, and so on - were to disappear. But, of course, as easily as one could imagine a peaceful, prosperous global democracy, one could also imagine a repressive, violent global dictator.
