I need to know what books you just got Sonja! Tell me please! :)

Cool! I have the ebook of Girl with a Pearl Earring, and I have the real books of The Man in the Iron Mask and The Three Musketeers! I think I might also have the ebook of The Other Boleyn Girl, but I'm not sure.

For Christmas I got I Am the Messenger and Schindler's List. Leading up to Christmas while buying books for others, I picked up Schindler's List, Anonyponymous The Forgotten People Behind Everyday Words, and March.

message 6: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Did you get the second copy of Schindler's List you were expecting?

message 7: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Yeap! Now we both have two!! :)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I went to B & N tonight... I was going to get just one, but I ended up with:

World Without End
The 19th Wife A Novel
The Commoner A Novel
Skeletons at the Feast
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

message 9: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Ohhhhhh I've read two of them! I really did like Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet... and World Without End was pretty good. I liked Pillars of the Earth better, but WWE was a quick and good read! :)~

message 10: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
The other three were buy 2 get 1. I also got a calendar and ended up spending $70.00.

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Is it bad that I pick books based on the cover? I do also read the back of the book, but I won't even pick it up if the cover doesn't speak to me (unless it's been recommended). For example, I probably wouldn't have read Pillars or World Without End without a recommendation because the cover didn't call to me...

message 12: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Nope! While you aren't supposed to judge a book by the cover, everybody does it! It's natural! :)

message 13: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Ok. That makes me feel better. I always feel bad and like I'm probably missing out on really good books just because I don't like the cover...

message 14: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Yes, but at the same time, if the other books didn't have awesome covers, how many of those would you have missed? :)

message 15: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I know! Books should all just have awesome covers!

message 16: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
So, what did you just get?

message 17: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Ehhh, I got the book for you, and two maze books for Anja. I almost bought Eating Animals, but I decided to just borrow it from the ICPL. I almost got The Other Boleyn Girl, but for the same price, I can get the ebook version, which will be much more convenient.

I was feeling broke today! :)~ (After a $36 lunch with Wimmie and spending almost $100 on shoes for the kids.)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Those are expensive shoes! I have The Other Boleyn Girl...I think. If you want to borrow it, you can. Let me know what I owe you!

message 19: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Sweet! I'll totally borrow it from you! Though I'll hurry up and finish a couple of your books first... I feel bad that I've had them for soooooo long! :) Yeah, Sketchers shoes (for kids) aren't cheap, but they last well, and the kids like them. The Payless ones are cheaper, but we have to buy them more often... so it pretty much evens out.

I'm pondering buying The Help. Margaret is going to let me borrow her copy when she's done with it, but I gave it to her for Christmas, and last Friday she was only on page 70... It's $9.50 on amazon, and I have amazon prime, so free two day shipping. First I must get farther in The Woman in White. Then I'll decide. If you don't have it and I get it, you can totally borrow it! (I checked the wait list at ICPL, and it'll be a good two months, maybe a bit longer...)

message 21: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (last edited Jan 19, 2010 07:01AM) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
You could get 2... I'd pay you back for one of them... :) Then we could read it together...

message 22: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Sounds good! I hear that it's an awesome book, and that we won't regret owning it. I'll do it!

message 23: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I just did it!

message 24: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Yay! Now I owe you even more money!

message 25: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Hah! :)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Is Margaret enjoying it?

message 27: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Yes, she loves it! She only reads on the bus though... so it'll take her awhile...

So...I got home and looked at my shelves and I already own Red River, so I took it off my order. That's why I shouldn't order books at work, I guess...

message 30: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Awe! :) Looks like you got some good stuff!

message 31: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I hope so!

I'm bad, and amazon prime is too evil. I just bought Meditations from the Mat: Daily Reflections on the Path of Yoga. Martha has it and generally reads a passage at the end of practice. It's a good book - it makes you reflect and think, yet it's not preachy.

Bad Sonja...

I just got:

The Queen's Handmaiden
The Zahir - the one I went in for
Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit
The Handmaid's Tale
The Sixth Wife
The Day the Falls Stood Still

The worst part about this is that I finally got all of my books alphabetized and into my shelves and they're full. I'm not sure where these are going to go!

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Ohhh niiice!!!! I sense me stealing a few in the near future... MU HA HA!

message 35: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

I noticed you had some of them on your to-be-read list. You are very welcome to them...as long as I get to read them too!

message 36: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I fell off the wagon. I ordered more books!

I got 6 hardcover books for $30 though...

Belong to Me
The City of Falling Angels
Hold Tight
The Last Summer
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane
Sepulchre

Would you like the audio of The Last Song for your May trip? It took awhile to get used to both the male and female narrator, but once you're used to them, they're pretty good. I'm on cd 9 of 10, and wow!

Where'd you get the books from?

message 38: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Barnes and Noble. They're doing a buy 2 get the third free on their hardcover bargain books and some of their paperbacks. I'm sure they're doing it in the store too.

For my May trip, I was thinking The Piano Teacher, but The Last Song sounds good too. I don't know... Which do you like better? I'll have about 16 hours, so I don't think I'll be able to get through 2 books...

message 39: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I think that The Piano Teacher is about 9 hours, and The Last Song is about 10 hours. You should do The Piano Teacher. I liked it. I really enjoy historical fiction! I'll put both on a flash drive for you - have I given you The Piano Teacher yet?

message 40: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I think so, but I'll check my computer at home. I could almost do both, couldn't I? I might start with The Piano Teacher and then do The Last Song.

message 41: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Neither of them start with H or W, so I think they'll both work!

message 42: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I'm on B&N right now, I think I'm going to fall off the wagon!

message 43: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
Join me... It's ever so much fun!

message 44: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I fell off the wagon!

The Street of a Thousand Blossoms
Looking for Alaska
The Sugar Queen
Child 44
Labyrinths: Selected Stories & Other Writings
Nobody's Prize
Mudbound

So, you only get one free book per order, but I didn't have enough for two orders, and Wimmie would kill me if I spent $50 on books today... So, only one was free, and of course it was $3.98. But, I only spent $38! (One of the books was $10something, but the rest were all pretty cheap!)

message 45: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I might have to borrow some of those!

message 46: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Totally! There's a few of yours that I'm going to hit you up for, but no rush. I still have several of yours I need to read. I'm really going to get to them... soon! Actually, I'm hoping to read Scarlett quite soon!

message 47: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I'm not worried. I know you'll get to them. I'm more worried about my shelves being too full when I do get them back! I'm going to need another bookshelf...

message 48: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Hah! I know your pain! I just bought new shelves a bit over a year ago... Ugh! I've even tried to weed a few books out, but just couldn't bring myself to actually perform the dirty deed. Bad Jenni, bad! :) (It's so hard, I own them for a reason. Even if I don't think I'll read them again, my kids might read them when they're old enough!) Plus, a house with lots of books is a happy house. That's what I think.)

message 49: by Sonja, (Da-Sonja) (new)

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
I know how you feel. Sometimes I'm jealous of the ease with which Carissa can take books to Stuff or give them away. I just can't bring myself to do it!

message 50: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I know! Clothes and toys are so easy for me to take to Goodwill or give away. Books, not so much!
