Wishful thinking GY!!

Zelic Jones | 80 comments I felt like I was enjoying it while I was reading it but on reflection it doesn't stand out. Audition was a lot more interesting and I'll enjoy giving that a second read.

Robert | 2698 comments I honestly thought this would win last year’s booker. I think it’s a rich novel

Anna | 253 comments While it was a bit messy, I still remember the novel as one of the best reading experiences from the booker. it was an interesting and intriguing read that did not ask too much from its reader - for me a prime candidate for the womens prize, although I have admittedly read very little from the list.

Bella (coloraturabella) | 576 comments I don't think there was anything wrong with this book, but I just couldn't connect with it. I think we could have done without the daughter's Paris years, though, since nothing significant happened there. I just felt it was okay, nothing great. I don't really enjoy the author's books, so I just put it down to that.

I agree with this. I compare it to The Land in Winter, which really does stand out after reading it, in my mind, whereas this has faded, except for the scenes set in Japan, which I thought were great.

Rose | 278 comments I liked this one when I read it for the Booker. Not enough to read it again already, but I thought there was a lot to it. I remember quite a bit which I can't say for all the Booker hopefuls I read.

Me too. It deserves more than a nomination (This prize maybe? Pulitzer is good as well.)
