~Moore's law: the observation that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit (IC) doubles about every two years
~the cost of books, and the John Dunning observation that paperbacks are equivalent to a fast food meal, while hardcover books are about like having a nice meal in a restaurant. I believe this still holds--these prices go up at about the same rate.

Re: the long list for the Women's Fiction prize.... I was only familiar with one book/author on the list too (the Lily King book). Where did all these others come from without getting on my radar?!
