Colin (colinalexander) | 420 comments This list could become extensive very fast, so I will leave it at a few that I have loved and list only one book for each:
Arthur Clarke - Rendezvous with Rama
CJ Cherryh - Downbelow Station
Frank Herbert - Dune
Poul Anderson - Tau Ceti
Isaac Asimov - Foundation Trilogy
Cixin Liu - The Three Body Problem
Robert Heinlein - The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Joe Haldeman - The Forever War
Becky Chambers - The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet
That should be a reasonable start. Enjoy!

Same.
Any parameters besides sci-fi?

maybe the title was meant to be: Need a sci-fi recommendation? followed by a list of their recommendations?

Richard Pidwell | 16 comments I always find it depends what kind of sci-fi you’re in the mood for.

I tend to prefer the kind where the threat isn’t obvious at first, more like something quietly observing or shaping things in the background.

Stuff like Rendezvous with Rama or Three Body Problem gave me that kind of feeling.

Eduardo | 6 comments I would say 'yes' to the list posted by Colin at the start of the thread. Mark Lawrence also has a hidden gem called 'Queen of Venus' which I'm currently reading: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
