Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments I'm currently on a bit of a shifter binge, but the types of books I am looking for are not your usual Were-type. I'm looking for books where some characters can change into multiple forms. So what I would like to read more of are not really the ones where a person can change into a wolf and back, for example, but instead where the person can change into a wolf AND an eagle or a wolf AND an eagle AND a deer, or even more. I prefer fantasy , but sci-fi can work as well.

Some examples of what I am looking for that I have read already are:

The Animorphs series by Katherine Alice Applegate where a group of kids are given the ability by aliens to turn from human into any animal they touch and back again.

The Switchers trilogy by Kate Thompson where certain kids have the ability to turn from human into multiple animals, real and fantasy, and back to human until they reach a certain age and have to choose what form they want to spend the rest of their life in, human or a certain animal.

Lee Driver's Chase Dagger mystery series that starts with The Good Die Twice where the detective's assistant has the ability to change into both a wolf and a hawk and back.

In Yasmine Galenorn's Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series, one of the characters has the ability to turn into both a tabby cat and a black panther.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 113 comments Um... It's been a bit since I read it (and I have a crap memory), but I believe one of the main characters in Lori Handeland's Phoenix Chronicles is a shaman who can change into different animals.

Any Given Doomsday (Phoenix Chronicles, #1) by Lori Handeland Doomsday Can Wait (Phoenix Chronicles, #2) by Lori Handeland Apocalypse Happens (Phoenix Chronicles, #3) by Lori Handeland
And next year's

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments I did think of one, but they are vampires that shape shift and the series is a little romancy with heavy sex scenes so not sure if a guy would like as well, but Christine Feehan, and her Dark Series, the first one is Dark Prince (Carpathians, #1) (2d Ed) by Christine Feehan .

Julia | 615 comments In Jennifer Roberson's Chronicles of the Cheysuli a multi-books series from maybe 20 years ago but was reprinted maybe 5 years ago may please you. In it, some of the characters are able to shapechange. In fact, that's the name of the first novel, Shapechangers.
Another you may like is a book of short stories where the characters are shapechangers, but not werewolves Otherwere.
Owl in Love is an interesting one.
Peter David wrote a book about a wolf that becomes a man on the full moon. Howling Mad is the title.

But none of these is about people/ beings who change into many shapes, I think...
Shapechangers (Chronicles of the Cheysuli, Book 1) by Jennifer Roberson OtherWere Stories of Transformation by Keith R.A. DeCandido Owl in Love by Patrice Kindl Howling Mad by Peter David

I remember that series. I read it twenty years ago. It started some of my love of fantasy. I even tried to write a brief screen play adaption of one of the first chapters for a writing for production class I was taking in high school (LOL). I don't think anybody got my interest back then. Oh well. I think of it very fondly and have the ratty paperbacks somewhere in my collection. (sigh)

I'd suggest my own book, but the shapeshifters (although they can transfer into any form) are not main characters in the story as of now. Maybe in one of the sequels. But I also love shifters who can change into more than one form. If I can think of any others besides what people have already mentioned I'll add them.
