I’m Annette, a proofreader and beta reader specialising in fiction. I am now taking bookings for July 2026 onwards.

I work with a wide range of genres but am most experienced with fantasy, literary fiction, magical realism and science fiction. Slasher and body horror, and modern romance aren’t my thing, so I may not be your best choice if your work is in those genres.

As your proofreader, I will seek out and destroy the grammar and spelling gremlins that keep your reader from your story, while shielding your unique voice. I will also save your characters from an identity crisis caused by randomly changing hair colour, a name change or a minor personality transplant.

I will act as a thoughtful audience, looking out for the problems and praising the good bits. I will make in-text comments so that you can see my immediate reactions. I will also provide a detailed report examining my response to your plot, characters and story-telling.

I read carefully for consistency in your timeline, characters, POV and writing style. If I find a problem, I’ll explain why I think it’s a problem, so you can find a solution.

My rate for beta reading is £1 per 1,000 words.

If you hire me to proofread the same work within six months, I will deduct the cost of the beta read from your bill!
