SDMB - Straight Dope discussion

I didn't notice Jeeves being slipped any little bits of monetary gratitude in this book. Of course, these escapades didn't involve any of Bertie's wealthier friends.

I watched the TV show first, and when I began to read the stories I was a little surprised to discover that Jeeves isn't always assisting Bertie & Co. out of the goodness of his heart. Sometimes he wants more in exchange than the relinquishment of a despised article of fashion. :)

I've not seen the TV show yet (it's in the mail), but I, too, was predisposed to think Jeeves some sort of generous friend, but it seems he's just as conniving as the rest of us. Poor Bertie, always stuck being the mentally ill one to get out of trouble. I'm surprised he has such close friends still!
