I'm trying to read Rain Gods. I've never read a Burke book before, but he sounded good from readers comments in the Mystery group. I thought I'd read this new one which is a stand alone and then start on his Montana series - I think the first one is Cimarron Rose. Are there any Burke fans who would like to encourage me? Kay, you read everything :-) Do you read James Lee Burke?

Christine The Dave Robicheaux books are the best! My favorite is In the Electric Mist With Confederate Dead. I hear they are making it into a movie soon and Tommy Lee Jones will be playing Dave Robicheaux, perfect casting! I think, if you like Alan Gregory, you will like Robicheaux. The setting of in and around New Orleans is cool especially for those of us who have never been there.

I've never been to New Orleans. I was thinking I'd read the Montana series because I lived there for a year and a half. Have you read both? Because if the New Orleans series is better I'll read that one first. Thanks for the info.

Christine No, I have not read the Montana series but I have spent a lot of time in that area. My sister-in-law lives in the Bitterroot Valley where they take place. My friends that have read both like the Dave Robicheaux better.

I lived in the Bitterroot Valley for 8-9 months. Stevensville and Victor - it was around the time of the fires. That's good to know about the Robicheaux series. How do you pronounce that anyway?

Jan C (woeisme) | 119 comments I prefer the Dave Robicheaux stories. I started with In the Electric Mist. Someone at a training session talked him up and that was the first one I picked up. I think it was the one she was reading. He named the daughter in the book after his daughter - a writer in her own right - Alafair Burke. She has a couple of lawyer mysteries out. I'm reading one of them - Judgment Calls A Mystery.

My sister-in-law lives in Stevensville. Small world!
