Challenge Corner discussion
2nd Quarterly - Chopped

Redemption Round Chat
Here are the rules just so we have them to look at in the thread:
How to Play
Unlike the show, no teams will be eliminated during this challenge. All categories will be available and repeatable throughout the challenge.
Each week you must read for at least 5 things:
1. A judge
2. A mystery ingredient
3. An appetizer
4. An entree
5. A dessert
Each of these categories has two tasks associated. Your team must read one book for each, meaning that each team must post at minimum 10 books per week. Once your team’s first set is completed you are welcome to read for additional ingredients and meals, but you cannot read for additional judges. Also, meals and ingredients must go hand in hand: you cannot read the tasks for a meal without also completing at least one ingredient.
At the end of each week one member of your team must check-in with a link to your spreadsheet and a list of the judge, ingredients, and meals you read for that week. There will be an example of how to do this on the check-in page.
Schedule
Week 1: April 1st - April 5th (check-in day)
Week 2: April 6th - April 12th (check-in day)

How do we want to work this? Do we want to put all the books in the banked tab and specify what tasks they work for and then post?
Open to ideas.

Yes, we have to pick a judge, mystery ingredient, appetizer, entree, and dessert to read for.
We have to read both tasks for whatever we read. And we have to read them all withint the time period. So this first week we have until 4/5 to get these 10 books done.

Here I am!!I also like the all in banked and then decide plan just to make sure we keep moving along, but I'm flexible!!
Ok guys, I think we need to also put what task these books fit for. I can search for some but some of these I can't.
I'm trying to come up with something that will make this easier, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

I added something into our spreadsheet.
In the Tasks sheet, the first row has a cell (D2) with all the tasks listed in it. You can copy and paste that and delete the ones that don't work for your book. That way, it will be easier to spot, and we won't have to keep writing them.
Please also add any information that is needed for how the book fits as well.
I used this and it's in cell G6 if you want to see how I did it.
Let me know if ya'll think this will work a bit better. It also makes it easier for us to match up tasks I think.

I'm using Scott Conant for the judge task since it's the only one we have. We need double consonant in title which I don't think will be too bad.

I am still a little confused on this challenge. I posted two of my books in the "Week 1", was I not suppose to do that?
Ok, before we post, we have to make sure that we have both tasks. It looks like you posted for Spring Salad - Published in May (any year) . So someone has to also post for Features a birth. We can't mix and match tasks.
This is why filling out the banked tab is highly encouraged before we post anything, because we have to make sure that we have both tasks before we post.
I have features a birth with one of my banked books, so I'll post that now.

No, you were fine to post. No worries. We will figure out the groove as we go.

Hello teams! Here is the link to the weekly check-in: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Check-ins are on Sunday, anytime before the end of the day in your timezone. I don't have a strict deadline for check-ins because I know it's the weekend and there are quite a few Sunday holidays during the quarter. I won't really be checking them until around noon Scottish time on Mondays, so as long as you're checked in by then it's all good!
And Happy Easter everyone!

The page minimum would be the regular 100.

Perfect! That works. I can post my book in banked then and we will have completed our week.
I'll go ahead and check us in afterward :)

Hi all! Just wanted to drop into the chat to clarify something about the rules:
When I first wrote the rules, my idea was that you would need one ingredient for the first three meals (first set) and then one ingredient per meal after that. But I've realized that this is really confusing because it means that the first set and meals after that sort of work on different rules, so I'm changing something. I will change the official rules page to reflect this, but I wanted to point it out to everyone in the chat as well.
Going forward, you need one ingredient per set of 3 meals no matter if its the first set or the third. You still only need one judge per week, but each ingredient will let you read for one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. Your team must read for one complete set at minimum (ingredient, appetizer, entree, dessert) but after that it's ok if you don't fully complete the set. So, for example, you could read for:
1 judge
2 ingredients
1 appetizer
2 entrees
2 desserts
or
1 judge
3 ingredients
3 appetizers
2 entrees
2 desserts
The only thing you can't do is read for one set and then read a bunch of ingredients and only read for one type of meal. So for example you could NOT do:
1 judge
5 ingredients
1 appetizer
5 entrees
1 dessert
The ingredient + meals works in groups of three meals (one of each), it's just that after the first set of three you aren't required to complete the set before the end of the week if you don't have the books to do so.
I hope this makes sense to everyone, and thank you for your patience with me as I sort out the best way to run this challenge!

Checking In. My two April reads so far were rereads so still need to re-review then will get them added to the sheet.
Dede - There are some books you've read that will work for tasks. They just need reviews. If you get a sec, could you do a review for these?
Jamie wrote: "Dede - There are some books you've read that will work for tasks. They just need reviews. If you get a sec, could you do a review for these?"Yes, It is on my list to do today! I'll do it now!
Jamie wrote: "Dede - There are some books you've read that will work for tasks. They just need reviews. If you get a sec, could you do a review for these?"Got it done! Thank you for the reminder also!!
I posted four books I've read and reviewed this month on the banked tab. Please use them where they help the most.
Ok, I posted what we needed and we finished our first meal.
With the new rules that Saige posted, we don't need another ingredient until we post for two more meals. Because of that, Dede I deleted your 4 posts to the review link for pickled tongue and yogurt parfait. I moved them back to the banked tab to use for future meals.
After looking at the banked tab, we don't have enough yet for another meal. I would suggest we don't post anything to the review section until we have the meal fully completed. If we post and don't complete the meal, I think we lose 20 points.
Great job so far this week!
