One part (of many) that I love about the gemma doyle trilogy is that Gemma is always learning more about herself, who she is, what she can be and what she can't. Gemma is always questioning her identity in victorian society (especially in rebel angels, with Simon) can she live within it or she has seen to much, has to much ahead of her, to be the typical english girl. And even sexually feeling one thing while victorian society tells her something else. I What do you guys think about Gemma's journey of self discovery? Was it too fake, too long? Or was it exactly what you hoped for?

Definetly, Gemma was constantly learning, about her mother, her self, victorian society, friends, her realationships were complex and real. I definetly felt the same as Gemma did in certain situations, lost, confused, scared, sometimes of others, even herself.

PS: Can you please put spoiler on top of ur message Taylor? Just so nothing spoils TSFT for other members who haven't read it. Thanks.

Yeah I loved that, so when she learned things, so did you, surprising things and sad things. When she went deeper into herself, so did you.

EXACTLY! These books actually changed me. And that's the very reason why.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I got in trouble for reading the books during class. The teacher said, "When you read while someone is talking its like saying "You are not as important as my book." I had to resist the urge to say that it was true! I liked that Gemma was always learning about herself, and it was always another mystery.

lol! That is sooo funny! I love the fact that they have mysteries within it, and they have a awesome surprising ending.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I love mysteries! And surprise endings are always the best. With some books, you can just tell that its going to end with "happily ever after". But with this series I had NO CLUE!

I know! And thats one of the many many reasons I love it!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

The reasons I love it would probably circle the earth 1709 times!

Ditto! They are amazing books, they have the amazing victorian aspect, but is very current, very real, very painful, very beautiful.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I love books in the 1700's as long as it isn't in America. American 1700's is SO boring.

Another thing I loved about the books is that Libba was so bold about Gemma exploring her sexuality, and it was very very real, and portrayed well without being cheesy.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I like almost all history, except the history which envolves the USA. Its SO BORING! The victorian and king Arthur era is very exciting! The USA is just *yawn*

Marialexa | 11 comments I LOVE British history too!!!I think I should have been born in England 500 years ago!

I think th reason Gemma went to the realms so much is because when she went there she felt beautiful and special. In Victorian society she probobly felt like just one of the many young women. Her power gave her the abillity to feel different from everyone else,

message 20: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 5135 comments Mod
But the thing is, she IS different, she IS special, she has FREEDOM in the realms, and who doesn't want freedom?

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I want freedom from my teachers! Not including my mother, who is also a teacher!

Emma Blue (litlover) | 5135 comments Mod
Freedom from society, freedom from judgements, free to live, free to have POWER.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I want power!

Emma Blue (litlover) | 5135 comments Mod
I think we all do, and considering the time period Gemma was living in, and society, it was hard to have power, to lift the blinders from the sides of your head and see.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

YA...AND NEWSPAPER FORM!!!!!

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 5135 comments Mod
My favorite would have to be first person. It's not as detached as third. Diary form drives me to no end.

message 33: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 5135 comments Mod
Yes. And the thing I love about TGDT is that though it is first person, you see everything in everyones perspective. And everyone is portrayed both good and bad.

message 34: by Marialexa (new)

Marialexa | 11 comments Ya and even though it is based in the late 19th century, you can still relate to the characters and what they are going through.
