Rant about topic 10
One of my all time favorite songs by Chevelle has 10000% gotta be "To Return" from their 2002 "This Kind Of Thinking (Could Do Us In)" album. Honestly, that album is nothing but straight fire anyways (save for a few I guess, there's like one or two I'm not the hugest fan of BUT there's a decent amount of songs so that's a pretty good ratio of good to bad, no?). But I never really knew what the song was ABOUT. I've seen people's theories or Interpretation or whatever, but they always feel completely different than the actual song. Maybe not completely different, but still not quite the way I feel it's about (which, I know interpretations are solely opinions but still lol). For starters, though, I'll put the lyrics here before I talk abt people's interpretations and stuff.
"To return to the cold
It isn't much fun
To touch the trees no one has known
Go rest your head, 'cause you can't miss this
Poor boy became a slave to use
Now despair moves in so close
Too many years, free at last
He didn't know, so learned to speak
He clears his throat, 'cause you can't miss this
Poor boy became a slave to use
Rebuild what's left of this child, so weak
Sorry, changes trample the plan
Death stores victims, once more
Keep on burnin' through the noose
Keep on burnin' through the noose
Keep on burnin' through the noose
Keep on burnin' through the noose
Keep on
Poor boy became a slave to use
Rebuild what's left of this child, so weak
To return, to the cold
It isn't much, but I'm free at last."
I've heard people say it's a metaphor for death, or that it's breaking away from past dependencies. I can KINDA see that, but personally I feel it's more a metaphor of being used and abused by people and not being able to stick up for yourself. The whole "He didn't know, so learned to speak" feels to me like a boy (or person, I'm just using boy here for a filler) finally learning he has the ability to fight back, so he "learns" to speak up. I mean, he's literally described as a "slave to use". And the whole "Keep on burnin' through the noose" feels to me like an encouragement to break free for those abusers, because they'll only lead to more destruction. They are the noose (there's that symbol of death) that traps him, and him speaking up against his aggressors is the burning of that noose, kinda like the expression "Burn one's bridges", yk? I don't feel like it's something in the far past he's breaking from like people suggest, I think it's present thing, like the boy is just now using his ability to "speak" to break free. He then has to learn how to "rebuild himself"- probably because he wasn't much of anything when he was being abused and taken advantage of. He was just people's pawn, a "slave to be used". But now, even though he's "weak", he is rebuilding himself and finally gaining that freedom and control he previously didn't have access to. Hopefully this SORT of makes sense lmao

Rant about topic 22
DUDE I WANT A FREAKING PRS CUSTOM 24 BARITONE SO BADDDD or oh my gosh I'd even take an Ibanez baritone I just want SOME form of baritone because my current guitar (an Ibanez GIO HSS strat) won't give me the tone I want and it's so frustrating, I literally have to play in freaking drop A# tuning and I STILL don't get that deep reverberating feel to it, it just feels too HIGH no matter how much gain or fuzz or whatever I put over it... I mean don't get me wrong my pedalboard has a decent array of things to choose from and I have a super sweet amp, my guitar is just not built for that deep tone I'm wanting- i DID get some 12-60 strings for Christmas tho, I'd have to go to a shop and give my guitar a full set up my unfortunately cuz they're thick strings and it'll just make the neck bow and I'd have to tighten the truss rods and add some springs to bring the bridge panel to the body since it's a lightweight-beginner type build rather than something build for such high tension... so even tho I do have the strings I cant even frickin use them yet ughhhhhhjhjh

Rant about topic 25
OK so right now I'm cooking on some little OC I'm making w/ a friend (like he's making an OC to be my Ocs buddy ig??) anyways I'm always SUPERRR extra when it comes to OCs so yk I have to do like hours of research to make sure it's accurate and all that jazz... well this time I decided to make an OC that's Native American during the late 18th century/early 19th century in the Appalachian. So. I've been researching for 3+ HOURS NOW and I JUST NOW found a name that I can somewhat hope is culturally accurate?? Bro there's like nothing on historical Cherokee names, I was STRUGGLING but I think I sort of pieced together something???? And I still have to like develop him as a character and draw him too... FML why do I do these things in such complicated ways 💔 (I'm extra this is 1000% optional and I'm loving every second of this)(oh also my friend's OC is gonna be a cowboy lol)
Rant about topic 26
Ok so I got the motivation to go find my lyric book again to maybe cook up some songs or smth, and I was just going through and flipping through old songs. Like they're highk cringe (and one time my English teacher grabbed the book and read them.. that was horrifying) but I flipped to a random-ass page with like this unfinished song and lwk I have NOOOO idea how I wrote it. Maybe I'm biased but I was highk cooking and have NO idea why I never finished it (I mean the start of it is corny I'll admit that but still there are some bars here trust)
Here's the snippet I found:
"Slithering, whispering / It's a quiet temptation / it's silent, it's hidden / why not reach and take a slice? / There's no rule, one aestrix / so simple, why give in? / But his cunning smile, his rasping words / you can't help but ponder this precious sin / Take a piece, boundless knowledge / epiphany, go share your all / Just one bite, just the smallest / shameful as he watches you fall / The fingers point, the blame is spread / but both fall guilty of the claims / Bruised heels, crushed heads / nothing will ever be the same / Separate, one must be greater / the first to fall ends up the lowest."
I think I wrote it based on the Adam and Eve story and how people use it to argue for anti-feminist ideologies? Just how a lot of people use it as an excuse to shit on women ig idk I wrote this like months ago ok
