In Sci fi, there are many types of robots from something that automates tasks to near human companions. Speaking just of written works, do you enjoy reading about robots that are more human or more machine?

Rosemarie | 656 comments It really depends on the author. My favourite robots are found in Isaac Asimov's books.

David Lutkins | 60 comments If done well, I can like both types equally. My favorite humanoid robot is Jenkins in the Clifford D. Simak fix-up City, and my favorite traditional mechanical robot is the Rex Regenerator in Bad Medicine by Robert Sheckley.

Rosemarie | 656 comments I forgot about Jenkins-I really liked him too.

Papaphilly | 320 comments I have read both and enjoyed both. I think I tend to go with near human with the idea of the uncanny valley. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is probably the touchstone novel for me, although Isaac Asimov robot stories are some of the very best. Sea of Rust is also an excellent look at the sub-genre.

Thomas (evansatnccu) | 263 comments I have enjoyed the recent stories by Suzanne Palmer featuring Bot 9.
See, for example, "The Secret Life of Bots" in Clarkesworld, https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/palm....

Big *YES* to both of these!

I liked Helene Wecker's "The Golem and the Jinni" a lot:

It's a pretty amazing piece of work. Author Wecker puts a lot of balls in the air, and hardly ever misses... Even more amazing, it's a first novel!
