Hi guys! I am so excited to be your captain and to do this challenge with you! I've done multiple Tower Teams in the past so if you have any questions, please don't be afraid to ask. Me or one of the co captains will happily answer! Also if you could put your link to your shelf for this challenge, I would greatly appreciate it!
How about we all share our favorite genres and a little about ourselves?
My name is Shannon. I'm from Pennsylvania, but we also have a house in Florida that I spend a lot of time at. I do Crossfit and running. My favorite genres are sci fi, mystery, thriller, and horror. And I have two puppies, ones a toy sized poodle named Nutella and the other is a Bichon poodle named Millie!

Writing one day of discussion posts = 40 points (1 team member)
Answering three days of DQs = 20 points
There is a spot to link your posts on the planning spreadsheet.
*BOM books must be finished within one month of the BOM start date (ie you can read The Will of the Many until June 18th to have it count towards BOM)
Reading Points ◈ Books under 100 pages = 0 points
◈ Books from 100 to 1000 pages = 0.1 points per page
◈ Books over 1000 pages = 100 points
◈ Points will be rounded using standard maths rules.
Example: 10.5 rounds up to 11.
◈ Audio-only books count as 100 pages, no matter how long the audio is.
General Challenge Rules
◈ Books must be started after the challenge start date to count.
◈ Books must be over 100 pages.
This is lower than some of our other team challenges.
◈ Any book in any language can count, as long as it meets the challenge rules.
◈ Re-reads are allowed if it has been at least six months since you last read the book.
This includes listening to the audio after reading the book.
Audiobooks
◈ Audiobooks are allowed.
◈ Please use the default Goodreads page count where possible.
◈ If the default edition is Large Print, use the next most popular edition.
◈ If there is no print or ebook edition, the audiobook must be longer than 3 hours.
It will then count as 100 pages.
Special Book Rules
◈ Books marked as Children’s, Kids, Poetry, Play, Graphic Novel, Illustrated, Photography, Art or Cookbook must have at least 30,000 verified words.
◈ This also applies if the title includes “Illustrated” or the metadata lists an illustrator.
◈ Estimated word count sites do not count as verification.
◈ AR BookFind is a helpful place to check. There are also .co.uk and .com.au versions.
◈ As a general guide, if the audiobook is over 3 hours, the book will usually be long enough.
◈ Boxed sets cannot count as one book. They must be shelved as separate books.
◈ If you are unsure, please ask your captain.
Teams and Check-In
◈ Teams will be similar in size to other Tower Teams or Wheelathon challenges.
We are aiming for around 10–20 members per team.
◈ Please wait until you are told which team you are on.
You can still count books started from the challenge start date.
◈ Once you join your team, please check in by posting the name of your Goodreads bookshelf.
◈ Please use a hyphen between words in your bookshelf name.
Staying Active
◈ You do not have to join in the chat if you do not want to.
Posting your books is enough.
◈ Your team does need to know you are still participating, so please check in at least once a week.
◈ We understand real life gets busy.
◈ If we do not hear from you in your team thread, and you have not messaged your captain for two weeks, you may be replaced.
◈ If you use Discord, please share your username with your captain so they can contact you if needed.
Mini Challenge TBR Recommendation Book List
📗 Books read from the TBR nominations earn an extra 5 points per book read.
📗 Series substitutions are allowed for books on the list.
Time To Climb
Part One
You know them, you love them (or maybe not? haha) - the ladders!
Unlike in some of our mini challenges in previous years, you are not going to use series numbers or titles. You are going to build ladders based on the years in which a book has been originally published.
You are going to build 2 ladders of 10 books each.
The publication years range from 1990 - 2025.
Not every year needs to be read for. Each year can only be used once per ladder. You don't have to start at 1990 or end at 2025. Your ladder could, for example, be: 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022.
Part Two
Mountains - and towers for that matter - are tall. They have several layers and they have a peak. What would Tower Teams be without a tower? Or a mountain in this case.
You are going to build a minimum of 2 mountains of books. For these, you are going to use page numbers. The page numbers you can use range within the standard rules of the challenge. You don't have to start at 100 pages or end at 1000 pages.
Beware though, your mountain should have a mountainous form. As a team you'll need to work your way up to one or more peak(s) and then back down the other side.
Plan carefully and communicate with your team members, for you can only climb one mountain at a time! Books for a given mountain can be completed in any order, but each climb you start must be completed before working on your next mountain. Once a mountain is completed, books are locked in and cannot be moved.
The team will build a mountain with 1 peak (20 books):
Example: 150, 209, 343, 489, 492, 562, 631, 848, 999, 802, 700, 650, 575, 501, 485, 400, 350, 289, 210, 101.
And another mountain with at least 3 peaks (30 books).
Example: 105, 150, 209, 343, 489, 492, 301, 352, 401, 502, 562, 631, 848, 999, 900, 802, 700, 780, 689, 650, 600, 575, 501, 430, 485, 400, 350, 289, 210, 101.
There will be completion bonuses for the first 2 mountains. After that, the team can choose to build other mountains throughout the challenge (of 20 or 30 books), but no more completion bonuses will be given. One partial mountain is allowed.
The Restrictions
🧳This mini challenge runs the length of Tower Teams.
🧳Each book read can only be used for one part of this mini challenge.
🧳Only one mountain can be worked on at a time, once a mountain is completed, books cannot be moved. In that way, banked books are not allowed for this mini challenge.
🧳Books can be started at any point since the start of Tower Teams XII (16th May 9am UTC).
🧳The usual book length rules apply.
🧳You will gain 10 points for each book you read.
🧳You will gain 20 completion bonus points for the 1 peak mountain and 30 completion bonus points for the 3 peak mountain.
Countdown to Start of Challenge: Reminder: Only books started after the start of the challenge can be used!

Maze Mountain Challenge
Adding mystery to your route up the mountain is a maze with stone walls. You can’t see what’s coming next, but every step you take must be accompanied by a book.
These tasks have been specially brought together by Mod Sophie, who is leaving the Mod Squad at the end of Tower Teams. With the help of Mr Sophie, she created the maze website that has brought so much joy and frustration to NBRC.
The tasks contain references to:
* her various teams in NBRC from Leather Jacket Black in TT2 onwards,
* her life outside GR,
* fellow mods,
* and memorable NBRC moments.
This includes her first direct interaction with the mods, when she spent several hours searching threads for an elusive snitch during the Harry Potter Tower Teams, only to be asked whether she had found a clever method or simply relied on sheer stubbornness.
Have fun exploring the maze and seeing what you discover along the way.
Points:
- Each book used in the maze earns 10 points for your team.
- Please use the minicodes from the MAZE tab on the spreadsheet and add the task into the task column as well.
Entering the Maze
- To enter your maze, click https://maze.meic.dev/. <-- You can view the maze here
- Your team's account name is your team name; your captains will have the password.
How the Maze Works
- When in your maze, you must choose a direction to travel: North, South, East, West.
- Each direction has a specific quality to the book you need to read.
🏆 North - Book title starts with A-M
🏆 South - Book title starts with N-Z
🏆 East - Even number of pages
🏆 West - Odd number of pages
- The tasks will generate automatically when you change squares in the maze.
The book you read must meet:
1. the requirement for the direction you want to travel, and
2. the requirement for the task you have drawn.
For Example:
- Task: Read a book with the MPG Science Fiction.
- Direction: North (title first letter A-M).
- Ender's Shadow fits both criteria
Fill in all the information requested, then hit submit to make your move.
Usual TT book rules apply including:
Re reads are allowed (6 month rule)
Page count = minimum 100 pages
Teams have until the end of Tower Teams to complete their Maze. It is not a race with other teams as we are all climbing different mountains.
Good Morning, this is Maritza from Brooklyn, NY. I have not been reading much these last few month as I am taking a CLC course (just have to take my exam, hopefully by next week).
I was waiting for this thread to open. This is one of the challenges I look forward to as I enjoy team challenges. I hope to be able to contribute by reading books off my TBR. I will pretty much read any genre for a challenge but lately I have been enjoying thrillers and working on Cross series.
I have placed some of the BOM on hold but there is a long wait time at library.
My other indulgence is watching television and have some series I would like to catch up on.

GR Shelf
I typically do read more than 20 books a month, but reading this year has been a bit inconsistent, and I like to reserve the larger page count ones for TT, so there will likely be some I read that won't be added to TT, but if I have not reached my 25 I'll move them over at end of month in case.
My shelf for this round is towers2026
Hello all!I'm Erin, and have participated in most Team Towers challenges since joining the group years ago. I've captained, co-captained, and played as a regular member like this round. One of my favorite team challenges.
I've played with Robin before, a bestie on Goodreads *waves* (Robin is the greatest! 😊), and look forward to playing with the rest of you if we have not been on a team together before.
I live in Central FL year-round and do admin work with a counseling program for a non-profit organization. I have a 25 year old son who lives with me, three adorable cats, my parents live across the street, and have a great group of friends. We have a book club that meets a Tuesday every month called The Grim Readers. Besides reading, I enjoy walks, music, tv, random self-care. I started this year slowly working on putting together some book nook puzzles. I've also been in the middle of trying to figure out home renovation projects this year (good and bad)
I love E-Books and have three e-ink readers (Oasis 3, Paperwhite 3, Paperwhite 5 Kids) and use Kindle Unlimited and Libby with multiple libraries. I also greatly enjoy paperbacks and have a large collection to read still as I reduce bookshelves a little. My living room is my dream living room/library combo, always in progress. Finally, I do enjoy Audiobooks but mainly in certain genres only and am picky with narrators, using Audible and Libby for those if I don't own them.
Favorite genres - Er, a lot. I think I'm pretty flexible really.
Mysteries - I love Dark mysteries, mysteries in UF and horror, Occult Delective, Noir and Retro, Hard Case Crime types, Cozy mysteries, some Police Procedurals. I of course love some Golden Age, especially Hercule Poirot with Christie. I've gotten into reading more of the classics and themed this year with another Goodreads group.
Horror - I always liked horror books and movies but this has died down slightly as I've been older. Pretty flexible with these, although I'm not crazy about Zombies, body horror, or too cheesy
Romance - I am part of a Romancepoly Discord year challenge this year, so I may be revisiting some older types of romance I rarely read any more due to this. I don't enjoy regular romance as much, preferring it mixed with other genres, but my favorites if choosing are Paranormal Romance of sorts, Dark Romance. I like some of the Cute and fluffy but am very picky on those. I rarely read category romance or bodice rippers anymore but some are better than others.
Fantasy - I'm a huge Urban fantasy fan and a big series addict. High Fantasy I have to have the writing not too stifling or confusing. I like YA and middle age within that sub-genre too.
General Fiction - I adore a lot of general fiction and drama types.
I am much less experienced with sub-genres of Science Fiction. For Non-Fiction I mainly stick to certain topics of film or theology, Memoirs and Bios (no politicians), and used to read a lot of Herbals in my twenties.
Look forward to playing with you all!
So, because I'm procrastinating, I saw another team used ChatGPT to create an image with their particular mountain.I entered our mountain name with the words books and challenge.
Love when it produced so figured I'd share:

I especially like the little books on the steps
Hi, I'm Franzi from Germany. This will be my second Tower Challenge. I am really looking forward to it.I will attempt to read 11 books per month but more realistically I will get about 8 done.
I really like the theme of this challenge. I have currently 55 books on my TBR and thankfully a few of them are also on the TBR Recommendation list for this challenge.
My favorite genres are Fantasy and Sci-Fi but I am pretty much down to read anything that seems interesting to me.

Hi everyone I’m Klare, I live in England. This is my fourth year playing Towers and it’s always been a really good challenge. I’m normally in a team with my sister Gem but she was too busy to commit.
I will read any genre (and any book if it helps a challenge) but currently I am really into crime, thrillers and horror.
If I’m not reading I’m usually with my dog Rolo, he’s a 4 year old Cockerpoo who loves going for walks and playing with his ball.
I know a few of you from previous challenges (I second Robin is the greatest 🤩) but hello to all the newbies. I’m going to send you all friend requests 😀

Hey Hey Hey!!! What's up my friends? 👋As I'm sneaking in and looking around, I see lots of familiar faces.
@Klare-- Thank you thank you! 😍 You're da bomb diggity 💥 I was super excited to see you on this team!!!
How's it going? It's been a while since we've played together. When I saw your name, I started looking for Gem 🤣 but didn't see her! I hope she's doing well. Give her a big hug and tell her I said Hi!!! I wish she could've played, but she can always stop in and see us if she has a minute ☺️
@Erin--My partner in crime! Thank you 🤗 I think you are pretty dang awesome too! Are you ready for this?? I already know you are 🤣 You were ready when the last one ended!
Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "@Erin--My partner in crime! Thank you 🤗 I think you are pretty dang awesome too! Are you ready for this?? I already know you are 🤣 You were ready when the last one ended!"
Oh yeah, you know me with these things, I over-plan and over-enthuse. 🤗🤗
Robin, was excited when I saw your name too. Gem was captain of our uno team but I think this one is too long and bad timing for her. Her baby just turned one, (where has the time gone) !! And she’s selling her house and get holiday booked for next month. Hopefully she’ll join in the next ones.
Hello everyone,I'm Jenn, I live in AZ. I love Tower Teams, and have done almost all of them except I think 1. I've been a captain or co-captain many times. TT is my favorite challenge, and I look forward to it every year. I read about 30 books per month on average.
I read books across all genres, but my favorites right now are Mystery, spy romance, dark romance, memoirs, and true crime.
When I'm not reading I enjoy being in nature, herbal studies, thrifting, cooking, listening to podcasts and playing with my two cats Ringo and Sunny.
I'm looking forward to reading with you all on this challenge

Aw thank you, me too. Something about it is just fun.
Jenn wrote: "When I'm not reading I enjoy being in nature, herbal studies, thrifting, cooking, listening to podcasts and playing with my two cats Ringo and Sunny."
I also really like podcasts sometimes but it's been awhile since I've listened to one. I need to change that!
Hello, my name is Dizzy, and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is my first time doing this challenge. Someone in the UNO challenge this year recommended it to me, and I thought I would try. I am a very slow reader compared to the lot of you; I will probably get through three or four books. I am a single mom with two boys, two cats, two fish, and two stick bugs! I work as an elementary school secretary, but this year is my last year. :( My main reads are epic romantasy's, fantasy series, sci-fi, horror, political books, and garbage/smut books (that is a genre, right?). Right now, I'm reading an alien smut/cheesy series. which I like to relax to. Hoping to read through the Shadow and Bone series, the Shades of Magic series, and find a few new favorite authors. :)
I am slow with rules, so I'll be annoyingly asking questions as we go!
Best of luck everyone!

I use Pocket casts and have in folders. I tried Spotify instead for podcasts for awhile to keep in one app but didn't like it for that and prefer to keep Spotify for my ridiculous collection of folders for music genres. 🙄
I have True Crime by episode and also whole series devoted to one case, such as Someone Knows Something. I have a lot to try out later for both of these with true crime
I also do a Theology/Christian Podcasts broken into sections such as news and such.
And finally a few Book ones I don't listen to much but are nice to have when in the mood such as a few from Book Riot for general, and some retro themes like Pikecast for retro Christopher Pike books and Say Podcast and Die! for Goosebumps, etc. Also two for Stephen King I need to try like Derry Public Radio
Also a few for horror movie themes like Dead Meat, Ladies of the Fright, Monster Men, Nightmare on Film Street, etc.
My collections all over the place are pretty ridiculous actually. I have not listened to tons but found it fun and addicting to collect and put in Podcast folders 😒
I need to stop playing and get down to business here!!! Geesh! For those who don't already know me--
I'm Robin coming at you from Middle TN. I'm 54, soon to be 55, and feel like I'm 555 😂 I have two grown sons, ages 35 and 32(as of yesterday) I have 2 biological grandsons, ages 7 and soon to be 9, 2 step granddaughters 17 and 10. I have 2 granddogs too, Freya and Titan!
I'm disabled so at home most of the time. I live with my elderly mother and help take care of her. So, some days I'm here on GR a lot, some days I'm not. It's like a 3 ring circus sometimes with all the wild shenanigans she pulls, so don't be surprised if I'm here telling you all a story from my crazy daily life 😁
In my spare time, when I'm not reading-- I enjoy arts & crafts, gardening, playing games on tablet, thrifting, browsing the web, and anything else I can dibble and dabble in. I also get my 2 grandsons a lot--especially during the summer and their other school breaks.
I am a heavy reader. My monthly average is about 80 - 100 + books a month, depending on what's going on. I'm not a big TV watcher, so I spend a lot of time reading. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, especially when I'm doing other things.
In general, I'm pretty laid back in the challenges. Being the heaviest reader, I will pick up remaining/harder tasks that nobody wants. But that often means I'm also stepping out of my comfort zone 😂 So, I'm not a fan of book moving/shifting unless the players are asked first.
My favorite genres are YA, MG, Historical Fiction, Mystery, and General Fiction. Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Romance are my least favorites. I do like paranormal IF it's ghosts and witches. Non-fiction-- I read some depending on the topic--mostly memoirs and auto/bios. For many years I wouldn't read anything but Romance. Now, only read romance if it's thrown in with other genres. But for the most part, I read anything and everything.
I mainly read physical books and audiobooks. I own too many tablets and have just started using them again for reading. I depend highly on the library--and have multiple ones I can use. I do have KU, Audible, Libby and also use some of the free book sites like Librivox.
My reading has slowed down a little bit, but picking back up. I just moved at the end of January but I'm finally getting settled in again. I have played TT off and on through the years. I remember playing the very first year it started.
I am a challenge addict and participate in quite a few. I have never been a co/captain of TT but have been a co/captain in other challenges. Erin and I usually team up and captain in a lot of challenges.
I feel like I'm forgetting something but several of you already know me ☺️ or know of me. I have been participating in the groups and challenges for 15 years--YIKES--that's a long time. I look forward to playing with all of you and ready to get this party started!
Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "I feel like I'm forgetting something but several of you already know me ☺️ or know of me. I have been participating in the groups and challenges for 15 years--YIKES--that's a long time. I look forward to playing with all of you and ready to get this party started!."
I know, it's amazing how fast time goes. When we did the challenge with Battleship and I had to look at when I joined Goodreads, I was like, dang, 2009 for me. I had gone to the first in person Goodreads gathering a long time ago when Amazon was sponsoring those after the buyout, was one of my favorite mini adventure memories.
Captains, are we going to have a Spreadsheet for team members to plan and log books, or is this a team where we post here in the thread instead? I know different teams do it differently. Personally prefer the spreadsheets as I'm a spreadsheet junkie. This time I'm going to make sure not to reserve too early or over-reserve as I have a bad habit of doing that and have gotten better with it and challenges this year.Trying to picture how these different mountains buildings will work.
I looked through the TBR list on the SS and saw a few on my TBR list for those 5 bonus points

I'm moving back to Pinellas County in July. I miss the ocean. But I'm going to be sad to leave the mountains and ravens and Sedona.

I am on Discord too but rarely use it so I'll come back with that info!
Jenn wrote: "I'm moving back to Pinellas County in July. I miss the ocean. But I'm going to be sad to leave the mountains and ravens and Sedona.."
I adore the ocean AND mountains AND flat farm fields. I live central as I stated which I prefer in FL for multiple reasons - one, less direct hurricane strike. Two, not a flood zone compared to coast. Three, a little less of the venomous snakes slithering around in this area compared to some of FL 😂
I love a spreadsheet too. I copied the TBR books and colour coded the ones I have in paperback and kindle so I can try to aim for the bonus points.
Klare wrote: "The group spreadsheet is locked to read only at the mo"That one is the official captain SS so we will not get access to that one.
Some teams will create a second one for members to put their books though, which I was wondering.
You sound like Robin - she has copied over all the books too!
I put some on these on a personal TBR as well.
It's a great perk that if it's in a series the one book is on, every book in the series counts for the bonus points. I had wanted to read a few series on there anyway.
I hope there's a SS as well. It looks like there's a "general" Tracking SS template that can be copied--as most of the other teams have the exact same one and then they may or may not have expanded on it.
🤣 YEP, I like lists as much as I like books. I even went as far as hyperlinking all the books & series Klare 🤦♀️ It's an addiction, I'm telling ya! No control what so ever!
Although I went through that whole lists while doing the hyperlinks, I can't remember what I did/didn't see.😒 But I will go back through it and get some kind of "OTHER" list together of what I want to read during the challenge. 😁

Central is pretty. All of my family is in Pinellas and my new job is there. Definitely buying in a non-flood zone. Where my family lives the hurricanes usually pass us though the last one took out some of our beaches. I would take hurricanes (you get notice and can evacuate) over Arizona wildfires. Those are so scary and there's no notice and I'm always afraid one will happen and I won't be able to get back to my house to get my cats if they block off areas because of fire.
When it comes to snakes, I lived in Pinellas for 15 years and have to say I saw a rattle snake 1 time at the botanical gardens and had a black racer that lived in the jasmine bushes in front of my house. There's definitely more snakes where I live now. I did just look it up and it looks like in addition to the pythons, peoples pet anacondas and boa constrictors that have gotten out have procreated and now become an invasive species, so that's fun....
Jenn wrote: "Ooooh there's a Christopher Pike Podcast? I need to check that out. I loved all of these books"
It might be ended now, but it looked fun to focus on different books. I will always love Christopher Pike!

It will be nice to be with my family again. And as much as people hate the humidity my skin and hair feels so much nicer with the moisture.
Hello hello! I see that we're finally open for business and no longer eating hotdogs by the fire in base 😂 It's so nice to meet everyone!
I'm Rosaline, a huge fan of tea, petting dogs, and sniffing books.
I wish I had signed up for more books for this challenge. Since I discovered audiobooks this month, I have been reading way faster! Turns out having someone read a story in your ear while you go about your day is surprisingly convenient. 😅 But anyway, I have been greedily holding on to my doorstoppers for this challenge and those I like to read with my eyes, so it’ll work out fine.
My reading tastes have been changing for a while now as I enter my late twenties, so I’m trying to rediscover myself as a reader. But I mostly read fantasy, literary fiction, and historical fiction. I’ve also been reading a lot of mysteries these days. Am always open to discover new genres and books I might like.
Super excited to do this challenge with you all and knock some books off my TBR and discover some new yummy ones.
