Happy reading!

Theresa | 1187 comments Hi Anissa!

Believe it or not, this is my first time participating in TBR twins!

How do you feel about using one of these for this?
Spelled
A Curse So Dark and Lonely

I think they are my top 2 from what we have in common.
I am willing to read a different one though.
I'm not really feeling it for "The Nightingale," right now.

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Hi Theresa!

That's so cool that I get to be your very first TBR Twin! I'm excited to read with you!

I'm good with either Spelled or A Curse So Dark and Lonely as both are available to me on Libby. I'm also not very far in The Thursday Murder Club if you would prefer to read that one. Just let me know.

Look forward to hearing from/reading with you soon!

~Anissa~

Theresa | 1187 comments I'll go with The Thursday Murder Club

I just now put it on hold using Libby. It says "available soon." So, I'm hoping to start it in just a couple of days.

Glad to hear from you. I'll get back to you soon.

Theresa

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Perfect! Do you only want to check back in with one another once we finish the book or should we do periodic check-ins (i.e. the parts breaks)? Or I suppose we could drop our thought in this discussion thread?

I'm good with any of these options! Glad to hear from you too!

~Anissa~

message 6: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 1187 comments I have this checked out now.

Maybe go with periodic check ins.

I'd like to finish my current read, which is fairly short. I'll start this one next.

message 7: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Sounds like a good plan to me.

Is there a certain amount of chapters you'd like for the periodic check-ins? Or are you think more weekly? I suppose either would work since marking spoilers is always an option.

message 8: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 1187 comments I'll check in over the weekend, see where we're at then. Does that sound okay?

message 9: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Sounds perfect to me! Look forward to hearing from you then. 😁

message 10: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 1187 comments I started off with the Libby audiobook. I ended up getting a large print copy from the library yesterday. I'm starting chapter 11 soon.
I might check in again sometime tonight.

Theresa | 1187 comments I'm glad I borrowed a print version of this. I think I'll keep up with the characters better, this way.

I'll be starting chapter 21 next.

I'm not sure where you are with this. Probably further than me, but just in case:

Theresa | 1187 comments I'm about to start Part Two. (view spoiler)

I'm enjoying this book. A couple of quotes that I like, but I didn't make notes of them.

message 13: by Anissa (last edited May 17, 2026 06:48AM) (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments I'm currently on Chapter 24 and I'm really enjoying this book. I wasn't sure after the first couple of chapters but their short length really helps to keep my attention (very helpful when I have a moment or two to read at my job ;) ).

Do you have a favorite character (since there are definitely a lot)?

I don't know that I would say she's my favorite exactly, because at times she seems like a real busybody, but I'm thoroughly entertained by Elizabeth. I like how she helps Joyce be more outgoing as well. I'm definitely more of a Joyce personality.

message 14: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 1187 comments I don't know that I have a favorite character.

I was hoping to finish during the readathon, but I didn't. I'll pick it back up on Tuesday or Wednesday. I think I have about 100 pages left. (large print)

There are some twists and turns, for sure.

message 15: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments That's awesome you only have about 100 pages left. I feel like the story is really starting to pick up pace for me now (I'm on chapter 39). In my mind I keep bouncing around as far as who I think the murderer is.

Other than Kindle/e-books I really enjoy checking out large print books. It's very convenient on days when my eyes are more tired (my bestie would roast me and say it's because I'm getting old...LOL! She likes to tease me because we have a 10 year age gap).

I, temporarily, lost vision in my right eye in 2025. So, I'm more than willing to choose a large print from time to time, now. 😄 I'm so thankful it was temporary.

Back to the book, when I think I know what's about to happen, I'm wrong. LOL! I haven't picked it back up yet. Maybe tomorrow.

message 17: by Anissa (last edited May 22, 2026 07:39AM) (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Thank you for sharing that story with me. I'm glad your vision loss was only temporary as well.

I just got to the end of Part 1 yesterday and I was pretty shocked. I mean not shocked that someone might also be targeting Ian, since he's mostly shady to everyone else, but shocked at the sudden plot twist. 😲

message 18: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Hi Theresa! Just touching base with you after the long weekend. I have exactly 75 pages left of the book to finish.

I can definitely see what you mean about the large number of the unexpected plot twists. I do really like the banter/humor in the book though. 😁

message 19: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 1187 comments I think we're in about the same part of the book then. I still haven't picked it back up, but I will finish this month. I'm not gonna be able to come up with the name right now, but when the gentleman that was sitting on the bench everyday, took his own life, I thought he was headed to dig the bones, or had something to do with them being there.

message 20: by Anissa (last edited May 28, 2026 01:28PM) (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments I thought the same thing at that point too...either that or Bernard was one of the murders (specifically of the person they found the bones from) and was going after someone (not sure who exactly, maybe Bogdan?) because he thought they knew too much about how the bones were found at the cemetery.

I'm still a little suspicious if the Club is going to find multiple murders (due to the multiple victims) or just one murder (who potentially murdered all three people).

I only have 35 pages left now and...eek...I'm not sure I'm ready for it to be the end of the book yet.

message 21: by Theresa, Readathons (new)

Theresa | 1187 comments I actually just finished the book. It's due back from the library. I'll have my husband return it for me tomorrow, on his way to work.

There are a lot of characters to keep up with in this. Wow!
I'm not sure I kept track very well. Maybe we can catch each other over the weekend. I'll be available, as far as I know.

message 22: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Michaud | 335 comments Good morning Theresa and Happy Monday! I finished the book on Thursday night after work. The book definitely didn't have the ending I was anticipating but I did appreciate how everything got resolved for this particular case. I liked the tenacity of Elizabeth but also Joyce's willingness to branch out though her adventures with Elizabeth and the rest of the club.

I'm SO glad it's finally June 1st so I can pick up Book 2.
