Happy May! It’s almost time for our Young Adult themed Individual Readathon! The event begins May 15 and ends May 17. Readathon Central is now available. The tracking and discussion thread will be available very soon! Don’t miss it!
Messaging is no longer available on Goodreads. You may communicate with the mods in the Questions and Comments for Mods thread. If you have a concern that needs to be addressed privately, you may email us.
GAMES & EVENTS Thank you to everyone who participated in our 35,000 member celebration! We’re so grateful for each and every one of you. Here’s to reaching our next milestone together!
For May, we have a new Scattergories (Round 3) category for your enjoyment! We hope you have fun playing along and can’t wait to see everyone join in!
Don’t forget to join in on the fun with the older games as well! There’s plenty of fun to be had, so jump in and keep the good times going!
Alphabetical Add-On Story unfolds a story one letter at a time, with each new addition following the alphabet from A to Z. Every contribution builds on what came before, turning simple letters into an imaginative journey. Five Letters is still going strong and the fun isn’t slowing down. Swing by, pick up your five letters and see what hilarious or clever sentence you can create. Scattergories (Round 2) and Word Chain (Book Edition) are still available to play as well.
Have a great idea for group fun? Please share your Game Suggestions with us!
GROUP READ Our May theme is Patterns, and our group read for this month is Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, a Russian classic which follows the psychological torment of a destitute ex-student who murders a pawnbroker, is consumed by guilt, and is ultimately redeemed through suffering and love.
CHALLENGES May brings two new monthly challenges with the theme of Patterns, and we will continue our second quarter challenges with the theme of Genre Gems.
Monthly Challenges Mosaic Mindset is an open challenge to read books using a pattern of your own choosing. Pattern Play is a prompt based challenge related to the cover art found on books.
Quarterly Challenges Build Your Own Hall of Fame: Genre Gems is an open challenge to add new genre-themed exhibits to your literary museum. The Lapidary List challenges you to spell out a gem name by reading award-winning books from the same genre award.
Yearly Challenges can help you reach your reading goals for the year. Check out A Guide to the 2026 Yearly Challenges to learn more about our year-long challenges!
Do you have an idea for a challenge? Or would you like to try leading a challenge? The Member Challenge Ideas thread is the place for both! Most of our quarterly and monthly challenges grow from our members’ suggestions. We would love to hear your creative ideas!
TBR TWINS Share a book with an online friend while knocking off a read from your TBR list!
