What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read a book in the 1970's, of style of alistair maclean. There were a cluster of authors including the war story.

From memory the hero is on a mission to norway that goes wrong and he has to escape to sweden. It was very cold in mountains. He does have to cut his toes off (my memory that stayed), but gets to neutral sweden. Help
