We know that in the book/movie/musical Darry Curtis goes on a rant about how much he hates his life and slaps Ponyboy, but what I want to know was if Darry was valid for breaking down. Obviously Ponyboy didn't deserve to get slapped, and Darry apologized for it later. If you think about it, he might've had a good reason. He lost both his parents and had to quit college to keep his underaged brothers together, he works two jobs, barely eats or sleeps, and constantly keeping his brothers safe from cops, social workers, and gang fights. The night Darry had slapped him, Ponyboy had come home at 2 in the morning, clearly not caring that Darry was worried sick. Ponyboy and Darry had kept lashing out at each other when Darry finally turned on Sodapop causing Ponyboy to go into defense mode and protect Sodapop which caused Darry to slap him, right after Darry slapped him, he immediately regretted it and tried to apologize, only for Ponyboy to run away. So was Darry valid?
