Hello Everyone! And welcome to the 12th Tower Teams :)

I am Judith (she/her/hers), captain of this team and one of the mods running this crazy climb! I've been a mod for a few years now and a captain/routine challenge participant for a long time before that.

In real life I'm an environmental economist in the Toxic Chemical office at the EPA. Live on the East Coast and am the mother of one every growing 8 year old who is on the autism spectrum. So my life is full of Legos, trains, cars, and animals. We recently adopted a cat, so that's been a fun adventure.

Most of the team looks like challenge veterans, but please ask any questions you may have. Lexi, Tammie and I are here to assist in any way we can

Also, if you haven't done so please make a challenge shelf. I grabbed the ones I saw people already had made.

But if you don't see one linked for you above, either you need to make one or I missed the one you made.

Lexi | 4368 comments Hi all, I'm Lexi (she/her), and I know most of you all from other challenges. I have co-captained before with Judith and look forward to co-captaining with Tammie for TTs. My TBR list seems to be stuck around 320, which is nowhere near some of you all’s but also doesn’t get any smaller. I work in global public health, specifically Guinea worm. I am not traveling this summer, so I will be around.

Please feel free to ask any question now and throughout. Anyone have any last-minute books you are trying to finish before TTs? I have Murderbot and two other short ones I am trying to read.

ChrisP Poyner | 276 comments Hi, I live in Indiana, but I will always be from Iowa. I recognize many of you and look forward to getting to know others. I used to be a accountant/controller before my health deteriorated in 2015 it has wanned and waxed but I have been better the last couple of years. I am connected to Goodreads at my hip and replay quickly and can be overly chatty. I live in a very fluid house with my wife and my brothers large family. Ages ranging from 2 to 22.

My TBR is 958 and goes back to 2012. Only two more left for 2012 and two more left for 2013. My oldest is 11/22/63 and that is chunky. I read pretty much anything for a challenge.

message 12: by Tammie (last edited 21 hours, 40 min ago) (new)

Tammie | 4 comments Hey everyone! I'm excited to be one of your co-captains! I have played/captained this challenge several times and enjoy reading with a challenge group.

I work in Real Estate and am currently pushing my way to retiring...I'll admit, this goal changes routinely when someone comes along that I know needs my help. My husband are empty nesters and travel quite a lot. We've two grown children with pets...no grand children...I have grand doggies... :)

I do love reading and believe it or not, have been working on reading less! I'm usually on GRs a couple of times a day as I mod for two other groups. I hope everyone will have fun, pick up a few GR Friends along the way and read lots of wonderful books :)

A request...please mark this thread for notifications if you haven't already!

Hey Chris…the audio on 11/22/63 is pretty good…once I got going it went pretty fast. I hate horror so I was pensive about anything Stephen King, but since, I’ve read a few of his shorties…not too horrifying :z

Shan ~A~ | 881 comments Hi all! I'm excited for TT. It's one of the challenges that I look forward to each year.

Link to my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

For a lot of years I work for a security company starting entry level as a guard/cashier, then later as HR Supervisor. I worked there for 18 yrs. until a health scare in mid to late 2022. After I had a diagnosis, I decided it would be better to work from home since I couldn't return to the office right away and I was bored out of my mind just sitting here while we waited to see if the different medicine cocktails were right for me.

I've been doing the work from home thing with the same company since then and I enjoy it. It's customer service, mixed with some light bookkeeping, and I no longer have to commute.

I have too many books on my TBR on GR and at home. A lot of them have been on the list since I joined. Every so often I'll remove books if I realize I no longer have access to it or I'll randomly pick one and if I don't want to read it in that moment, I just remove it.

I have been making a more concerted effort to read more books off my TBR on GRs this year. I haven't read a lot, but it's a better effort than I've made in the past.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5374 comments Hi all, veteran player here too. Like very veteran. Like I’m pretty sure I played in all of them, though I think I was added as a player late in the game for Towers 1. I’ll have to verify. This game changed my life in a lot of ways, including leading me to my “big sister” from across the ocean who happens to be on this team too, Sonia! We don’t talk every single day like we used to, but we keep in touch, and we even got to meet each other in 2024 when my hubby and I went to London for RuPaul’s DragCon and some West End shows. Sonia flew over from Portugal, visited her cousin while we were at the Con, and then we hung out for a few days. And Cat and Sophie, other NBRC mods, met the three of us for dinner at a lovely favorite place of ours, Fish! at Borough Market. So yeah, dive in to the challenge because you never know who you meet that will bring so many good things to your life! (❤️ Sonia!)

Also played with Judith before and consider her a friend! But I need to check out the list of teammates because I didn’t even glance at thoroughly before coming here to type.

As for me, I used to read more hardcore than I do now. Towers always kicks my reading up a notch, which I love.

I have a degree in accounting and an MBA, but I took a break for a few years and didn’t work, thanks to the hubby making good money. Last year I started working for a friend who started her own company, and it’s grown to me doing all the back office stuff - scheduling, admin, accounting, billing, payroll, random projects, keeping her organized, etc.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5374 comments Oh, I know Eni, Lexi, and Sammy too. And maybe more - I have to check out profiles to make sure. 😬🤪

Anywho, also have three pets: a male dachshund terrier mix named Albus Noble, an American short haired female gray tabby named Artemis Ozwald, and a female Italian greyhound chihuahua mix named Murphy Rose. Bonus points if you can figure out where the names came from! But “Artemis” came from the fact that I caught her in my old work parking lot and she has little gold streaks all over her face that are very goddess like, and Artemis is the Greek goddess of wild animals and the wilderness and the hunt. The rest of the names come from books and/or tv shows.

And hubby is Lobster. 🦞 or Alex. But mostly Lobster. lol.

There, I’ve rambled incessantly. You’re welcome.

You were posting at 3 in the morning? And yes, you joined Towers 1 on the last stretch. I think that's how most of the players got roped into be8ng captains for towers 2.

Love you too. And we need to find another place to meet when the world is calmer. Maybe Disneyland Paris next time. They opened Arendelle in March

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11612 comments Hi team! My name is Sonia, and I'm a long timer tower teams player too, I think I only missed towers XI when I was on a goodreads/challenges pause.

I'm from Portugal, and I live with Eni (she's my sister) and her lovely no-longer so little minion (she was a newborn when towers started... where did the time go?), plus our two feline fur babies named Kion and Kiara. We had a cat named Simba at the time, and the kid named them as Simba's children from Disney's The Lion Guard.

As Steven mentioned, we met during the first towers and are like siblings. We would be at each other's places all the time, if not for a big pond in between :D

I'm a software tester, I mostly work from home, which I love, only going to the client's office once a week. They like to see us there, not sure why, I would say it was a bank thing due to cybersecurity issues, but we have vpn access, so not the reason.

Hello everyone! excited to see so many checking in already

Before Saturday, I'm mainly listening to some fairly short books I tend to push off until I'm between challenges. Catching up on the Singing Hills series for example.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13894 comments Hi everyone!

Sammy here. Unrepentant challenge addict and veteran of many TT and other NBRC challenges.

Love to see so many of my favourite bookish people all in one place (in fact, we seem to be only 2 shy of team Trouble... 😉. Big thank you to Judith the team picking deities for making that happen!).
I'm also looking forward to playing with those of you I haven't played with before. TT is such a great challenge for making new friends!

I'm not going to be reading anywhere near as much as I usually do this TT. We are still without Internet (almost 2 weeks and counting. Using the unlimited data on hubby's phone right now, but he's working away again from tomorrow...), and I am also currently in a temporary living situation that doesn't leave much opportunity for reading. I reflected this in my sign-up numbers though, so won't be under-reading by 15 books a week! 😆

So if I'm quiet, just assume internet is unavailable. I have never ghosted on a challenge, and certainly don't intend to start now 😉

If I do have internet at any given time, expect incessant chatter from this corner, especially as I have much catching up to do with a certain pair of Portuguese sisters who have been MIA for waaaaaayyyyy too long!

Lastly, those of you that know me know I have a certain picture-posting habit, especially during challenges, but I'm afraid that for above reasons, I'll have to pass on that this time. I'll make it up to you at a future date 🤪

message 22: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13894 comments Oh, and as for the size of my TBR, it tends to be smaller than most people's, because I don't consider a book TBR until I own a copy.

I have 2 separate TBRS, audio and print. They run at 47 and 398 respectively...

My TBR was like 7000+ books until a few years ago when I went through purged it down to 1500. It's back up to 1800. LOL

message 27: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13894 comments Yeah, should be good for internet for a couple of hours at least 😆

And on top of everything else my mum had a shoulder replacement surgery today. She just called to say all went well and she's coming home tomorrow! definitely a load off my mind, and I'm so glad I made it up here in time to look after her.

Steven, I promise I will make it up to you at a later date 😉

Jhmingos | 766 comments Hi everyone,

It's nice to recognize some familiar names, and I'm really excited to be in my 5th year with TT, especially this year. I like a healthy size TBR, but even for me, it's getting out of control 😅.

I'm from Southern California and have been working in research for years. Unlike a lot of my colleagues at work, I prefer reading a mix of various fiction. It gives me a break from the dry and technical stuff I have to do at my job.
