For the longest time I would have said Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde, but they did finally write a sequel, which I still haven't read. Or the Cinder Spires by Jim Butcher, but he also finally wrote a sequel.
Most of the series I would like more books for, the author is dead, so no chance there.

Ooh, I didn't know he wrote more of that! I'll have to re-read the first one first, though, I barely remember it.
Ooh. I am still thinking about this question. But I did read the two Fforde books, Shades of Grey and Red Side Story. SO good. There's to be a third one, but I am not holding my breath.
I'm putting off reading The Lost Steersman and The Language of Power (published 2004) because there's no sequel yet.I've never really needed a prequel, although I have enjoyed several.
Cinder Spires would have been on my list too, although I have to admit that while I own it, I haven't read book 2 yet. Is that a complete series with only 2 books or am I waiting on another sequel?

I read the first one and LOVED it, but I am waiting for it to be finished before I go on!

Exiles trilogy by Melanie RawnThe final book Captal's Towerhas not be finished. Apparently she has some issues, not sure what but there has been talk she wants to finish it.
I read them as they came out but been waiting for the final one for a long time
as for stand alones needing a sequel. I dont know. The Genre lends itself to series.

Oh, who knows. There was a gap of 15 years before the 2d book of Fforde's Shades of Grey supposed trilogy came out. Hope never dies!
