His parents never flinched, never complained, they did what came naturally to them; care for their children. Despite having only an eighth-grade education and low paying factory jobs, they did exceptionally well at it. It was a happy and loving home. Fun and humor took the place of the material things they lacked, and the humor was a coping mechanism when health things got tough. It came naturally and was used often. Yet, he knew it wore on them.

Maybe it was what happened to him the night before. Perhaps when he nearly left this world, he went somewhere or saw something before he took that long breath. Perhaps it caused him to want to come back to tell his story. The thought of that made him wonder again if there was a specific message in the story, something his father wanted him to understand. Was it that his father was as adventurous as him. Why did he tell him, and only him, after all these years? For some reason he didn’t want the rest of the family to know that except for a broken arm, they might not be alive today
