I have been receiving emails about my book from AI scam bots using a Gmail account with real authors' names as the sender. How to spot a scam. An author doesn't use a gmail account with numbers after their name. They usually have a webpage with their own email in their "Contact" or "About" tab. 2. They give an overly vague description of your work with multiple compliments.
I am now in the habit of researching and emailing the actual person to inform them that they are being impersonated.
What has been your experiences?

I am getting 10-15 of these emails every day. Many are from mailing lists sent to me and “undisclosed recipients” . It’s great to know that all these people are so enthusiastic about my book which they have not purchased ! But a pain to wade through and see if any are legitimate people.

AI has made it so much easier to find potential "Marks", creating these generic letters with vague descriptions of the book. Then offering services for a fee. They do catch enough to make a living at scamming people, or they wouldn't do it.

Hi. I’ve been approached by peeps who say they’re running 5-month challenges in the BookTok group. They say that they would like to include one or more of my books, and they have a scale of charges. One gives a link to a Goodreads Booktok member’s profile.

This could be a scam, obviously. It sure looks like one, and I would be happy to share details with a librarian or a mod. I’d sooner not post them publicly, though.

I got the same message for my new novel 🤣 asking me to pay 2500$ for some kind of book festival.

Okay, thank you so much for posting about this. Ever since I got back on Goodreads, I have been having random emails from people I don't know. A lot of them literally tell me things about books they say I've written that I haven't. Be safe out there, everyone. Question everything, and never give out anything important, not chapters or anything, to people you don't know!!!
