I've been listening to this same book while I drive...Chapter 9, 37:50 mins (number at bottom left) It starts talking about EXPLORING vs HEIGHTENING.
Very interesting listen for the next 6-8 mins.
Heightening = If this is true, what else is true?
Exploring = If this is true, WHY is it true.
To relate to your comment, I think the natural inclination is to Heighten, but we should be doing more EXPLORING.
They go on to say Exploring is what grounds the absurd thing thats been accepted.
They also say not to try and justify the absurd thing with ANOTHER absurd thing.
IMO thats one of the direct routes to crazy town.
Which is kinda the same as "failing to be affected".

Chapter 4 finding the game... crazy town...
"Failing to be affected can cause you and everything around you in the scene to seem absurd" this really strikes me. Sometimes we're so busy yes anding we forget to react. Anyone else feel this?
