would you mind starting up the rp? You can just assume that my character is at her house near the wood if you want.
WOAHH SHE LOOKS SO COOL!!two questions, one, how are they meeting? And two, is the setting older times like villages, castles etc?
thanks, I'm not sure how they're meeting exactly but I was thinking of the setting being older time. So yeah viliages and castles.
Okay!!And let's see...we could do an accidental stumble since my OC loves to wander to random places if you like?
(okay!! sweet)Rain started pouring hard on the streets of this local village, bothering Aorta a bit. He sighed, pulling his hood up as he watched the local villagers attempt to protect their valuable goods from the rain in the most odd ways. That made him chuckle softly to himself as he continued to walk, not planning to hide himself anytime soon.
As he walked, he suddenly reached the outskirts of the town but from where he was, he could see a shop which colorful liquids, which made him fascinated. He started heading towards the direction.
Before entering, he stood outside the shop and read the words scrawled on the sign, Apothecary, it read. He gave one last glance before keeping his head down and turning the knob, pushing the door inwards.
When he entered, he removed his hood and was internally in awe. He looked around at the bright liquids, ones he couldn't even identify. He looked at the shelves, which had herbs and medicines he had never seen before. This place was large but he wondered why it wasn't in a more crowded area, considering many people were in need of these herbs.
(Please don't let my length intimidate you LOLLL)
(Yay!!! That looks amazing, and don’t worry about the length it’s good)As soon as the door opens, a bit of cold seeps into the warm room. A fire blazing in the corner with 3 different pots over it and two herbs hanging near drying out. As soon as the door opens Merlinda looks up, an old book in her hands, the cover worn and the pages well use.
The whole place is curious, there’s bottles with faded labels on old wood shelves. The counter edge looks hand engraved with swirling designs. The window overlooks the area but the curtains are drawn to keep the draft away.
The rafters/ceiling area hold herbs hanging in corners. There even seems to be a small birds nest tucked away in the corner.
Merlinda greets the newcomer with a smile. Shifting so she seems more professional, like the owner of this shop. Letting him just take it in because she understands how wondrous it is and hopes it isn’t frightening due to the oddities around. Like the feathers collected in a corner. Or rocks hidden in nooks and crannys.
“Hello, how can I help you today?”
I say polite
Voice quieter and sweet.
“Are you looking for a remedy or simply browsing this apothecary?”
I question curious.
To me he's just another traveller passing through
nothing new, nothing else.
definitely intriguing with heterochromia.
Aorta flinches at the voice, clearly not expecting it. He turns around, his different coloured eyes landing on her brown ones. She took in the ladies features while attempting to calm his racing heart. "Apologies ma'am." He spoke, his voice soft but deep. "Neither, I was just a curious being that's all." He admitted truthfully, something he always does since he dislikes lying. "Do you mind if I be here? This shop truly fascinates me." He said before glancing around, looking up at the ceiling now as he saw a small bird fly towards the nest. That made him smile softly before looking back at the woman.
"I assume you must be the owner or a worker around here?" He asked, curious.
She just watch him for a moment, and nods her head. Seeming to file away his reaction. “Not at all, would you like some tea”
Her voice is light and cheery.
The rain outside has began to pick up. Falling in torrent, beating against the old stone foundation but barely reaching inside this cozy shop.
“And yes to both, I’m the owner and worker”
She says with a small amused smile. Gesturing to the bubbling pots. “I was just trying a new herbal blend, you can be the firs taste tester if you want”
Her voice is naturally calm, just suspecting it might not have turned out correct with a glance.
“But I suspect it may be a bit bitter so be warned”
She just pours two cups.
He snuck a quick glance at the window, watching the rain pour down harder. He sighed, "I guess I'll be stuck here so why not." He shrugged, following the lady towards the counter. "My, you own a nice place truly. It's well maintained and kept." He complimented, still looking around like a child in awe. "How long have you owned this place for?" He asked, finding a stool to sit on. He then retied his hair, now making a small ponytail as loose strands fell on the sides of his face. He kept a steady but soft gaze on her, something he did when he found someone interesting. "Also, please call me Aorta, pleasure to meet you."
She just watches him a moment, analyzing her own answer. “Well I’ve been here for a while really” a slight dismissive shrug. Yet she looks over the place, as if seeing it from his eyes. “Nice to mee you Aorta”A small smile, just setting the teacup down.
“You may call me melinda”
She says casually, taking a seat so they can talk. Curious because his attire is not from this land and she’s beginning to suspect he’s a traveller.
“I do not think I have seen you about these lands”
Head tilted a fraction, curious.
“Where do you come from?”
It’s a bit more blunt then her usual, however she is curious who this stranger is.
"Pleasure to meet you Melinda." He said softly with genuine before taking a sip of the tea. He paused, processing the taste. "This is truly really well made, better than most teas i've tried." He said with a small smile. At her question, he paused. "You're correct, I'm not from here. I'm from the land of Secal, quite far from here." He lied, though it was not visible in his expression or voice at all. He's said this lie many times and now it has just become familiar to him. Though, the land was a real land, just quite far from here.
"Are you raised here?" He asked, changing the subject as he took another sip of the tea, finding pleasure in it. It was like she knew his taste.
Her eyes narrow instantly, something becoming off with the air as he spoke. However she could not place it, and so dismisses it. “The pleasure is mine” she says genuinely, taking a sip of the tea and making a face“You are far too kind, for this tea is horrid”
She says grabbing a small jar of honey and adding some in. Not forcing him to take if he genuinely enjoyed the bittersweet blend, the option just there if he wanted.
“I’ve never heard of such a place.”
She then says focusing on that, genuinely interested. A lover of adventures but also preferring to stick near to home. A contradiction that has often made a lot of her decisions.
“And no, I was raised a few villages away” Her voice remains even and light. Trying to avoid lying to him, and used to omitting the exact truth. One giving minimal answers and redirecting the conversation.
“How was your travels here, I’m sure you’ve met many interesting people?”
I say curious.
The storm outside blowing hard.
Causing the place to creak slightly, and then it quickly corrects. As if something else is keeping the atmosphere simple and calm. Only from sitting down is it noticeable just how many alive plants are here, and how that one wall has vines across it. Something that may not have been there a few seconds earlier, but is impossible to know for sure.
He notices the way her eyes narrow but doesn't dare say a word about it. He chuckles softly when she complains and watches her put honey in her tea. "I'm alright, I like the bitter stuff sometimes." He admitted truthfully, still keeping his gaze on her with a small smile."I see...Secal is a land far from here. You would need days, weeks even to arrive here in this village. It is an oversea adventure." He said softly as the storm blew harder outside. He glanced at the window and sighed before looking back at Melinda.
"My travels here were...let's just say interesting." He grinned. "I've met all types of people from librarians to scholars to thiefs to even criminals on the loose. All types of people." He smiled, remembering the memories.
"Which village were you born in?" He asked curiously now, taking another, easy, sip of the tea.
She seems curious, just watching him and his slightly odd demeanor. So unused to the people she’s used to dealing with. People rude and just coming for what they need before hurrying away again. “Oh it’s small, nothing much”
A slight hesitation
Thinking, and then settling on the familiar lie.
“It’s off by the mountains, maybe a two or three day’s ride east. It’s not even mentioned on maps, it’s called golden grove, for their orchards”
She shrugs it off.
Turning to another topic. “I suspect the rain will stop soon”
A beat passes as she glances through a crack in the windows, it’s still pouring outside.
“Did you travel here with a horse or on foot”
There’s faint worry in her voice. Especially at the fact that they may have been caught up talking and forgotten an animal out in the storm.
He did sense something odd in her description of the village but decided not to question it, thinking it was a sore spot for her. "I see..."He glanced out the window at her words before looking back at her. "I hope so too." At her question, a smile cracked. "Ha, by foot. I have never been the one to travel with horses or any animal so I reassure you that there's no animal outside suffering in the heavy and dangerous storm." He reassured her, finishing the last of his tea. For some odd reason, he wanted more but remained quiet, knowing it might be disrespectful since they just met.
Her shoulders untensing, relaxed there is no animal outside. “Oh that’s good then”A small nervous laugh realizing how suddenly she must have switched the topic to an animal.
She notices his tea has finished, and not wanting to be too forceful offers. “If you want there is more tea” Simple easy.
Just leaving the pot on the counter.
“I do apologise but I have to finish with those remedies there”
A small gesture to the other pots over the fire in the corner. Not necessarily anything she’d do being a host, but she’d do need to start on it otherwise they’ll all turn bitter.
And so that’s where she starts.
Just stirring a few and straining them into different vials.
“So Arota, how long do you stay here?”
A simple innocent question. Something any traveller would be asked.
Because there’s just something off in his story and she hopes to find it politely.
“If you need lodgings there’s only one place in town so it should be easy to find”
Easy going, normal, keeping the conversation flowing.
“Unless your just passing through?”
Because there isn’t manny places close
And traveling on foot is typically the least desirable way to travel.
Not impossible, just rare so it brings the question what traveller is he, and where does he actually come from.
(The interrogation is frying me LOL)He chuckled softly when she relaxed. "Thank you and don't apologize, I technically came during working hours." He reassured, stirring the pot as he placed more tea into the cup. "If anything, I should be the one apologizing." He said with a small smile.
At the amount of questions being fired at him he paused, processing and thinking what to say before speaking. "I plan to stay until it is safe to go home, there are some family affairs going on that I wish to not dive deeper into." He requested, wanting to let her know that these questions were a bit boundary invading. "Secondly, I have a small hut I stay in so as much as I appreciate the worry, I do have a home. Thirdly, I am alas not passing through." He said, his smile dropping. He clearly felt these were invading questions but answered them so that he doesn't disappoint her.
(Yeah lol, guess she ended up being nosy)She just nods her head
Continuing to portion out and vial the different brews she’d been making.
Accepting those answers even if the felt a bit slippery.
Mostly due to the fact she was focused now on her work. “That seems interesting”
She says casually, just glancing once his way, then back to what she’d been sectioning and pouring.
“I thought you’d been traveling from Secal”
An easy observation, one that just so happens to point out a flaw in his words.
Considering that’s where he said he was traveling from, and somehow has a hut here.
But I don’t even seem to notice the bit of contradiction I ran into. Instead I’m over onto the next pot, labels spread on the table writing quick and a semi-cursive script. Quickly on each of the vials and then pouring the next pot out.
The first had been a captivating green, and smelled like mint and parsley with something else. This one is an unsettling deep blue, smelling like salt and if sadness had a smell.
He sighed, feeling a invaded. "Yes I may come from Secal but did you bother asking how many years I've been here in the village hm?" He stood up, "forgive me ma'am but I truly feel like you are crossing a line. I shall take my leave now." He admitted before pulling the hood on top of his head and leaving, slamming the door softly. He started to head back to his hut. When he entered, he removed his hood and ran his hands through his hair, finally feeling like he could breathe again. That was stressful for him.
She pauses, watching the door he’d just left by. The rain outside a light trickle now, fog rolling in.
Something about the whole encounter felt off. But she hadn’t actually meant to push him, her curiosity had just gotten the better of her. Typically people loved talking about themselves, boasting over this information or that, always just talking.
It’s how she had avoided answering questions asked her way. However this person had seems calmer, quieter. The fact he pointed out as well was a valid one. So she just sighs continuing on with what she’s doing, able to use things typically banned without being observed but also feeling bad, wondering if stopping by to apalogize would be too much.
Once the rain had stopped, leaving a fog. He decided to head to the village marketplace. There were many vendors that recognized him, which made him smile. However, one of them was his personal favourite. He entered a tent. "Looking for Aleena." He said to the man as he went to the back. Just then, a young girl, in her teens came and ran towards him. "Heart!" She said happily which made Aorta grin, pulling her into a tight hug. Aorta in the common dictionary was a part of the heart and he usually disliked nicknames but this was the only one exception.
"How are you doing Lee?" He asked, going on his knees to match her height.
"I'm alright! I have uh- I have coffee beans to offer today for exchange!" She said and Aorta nodded happily before heading to a small private room.
Aleena was the daughter of the owner of the fortune teller. He used to come here often for entertainment purposes until he saw Aleena. He befriended her and her mom doesn't mind the company.
"Okay, what do you want to know today!"
"I want you to use your powers!" She said which made Aorta laugh. He had promised her last time that he would.
"Alright, alright." He moved closer and requested her to place her head on his thigh, lying down. "Now...you need to sleep and let me do the magic."
Aleena nodded and attempted to sleep, excited. Aorta then gently placed his hand on her forehead and made sure she was asleep before shutting his eyes. Aleena's forehead began to glow softly. Aorta then made sure she was in a beautiful and calm dream before slipping into there and looking around.
Meanwhile Melinda had been sorting things in her shop. Finishing with the medicinal viles when another person comes in. They’ve come here before for remedies, mostly for their sick mother. This time though apparently the towns doctor is busy and so I’m needed. she can’t remember the last time she'd been in town, maybe a month ago and so she hurries along, bringing a kit. Helping as best as she can
In a more traditional town she slightly stand out. Especially considering many people know who she is, since she assisted all of them with different things but usually from my apothecary.
she's there roughly half an hour, ensuring that the mother is fine. A whole lot of fuss for just a simply flu. But treating it as seriously as she doed everything, professional as always.
Since she's already in town, she decide to do some shopping.
needing to buy a few more glasses after all and some random odds and ends. Moving about the stalls a bit hesitantly
Grabbing a few things, mind a bit on the stranger who apparently lived around here.
Eventually she's pulled into a conversation
Someone trying to sell things.
Talking on and on and on.
And she just add in some well timed questions
Ending up learning all the gossip from the past month.
Although his body had been in the real world, his mind was in her dream. In the dream, they were on shore and he saw Aleena sitting there. He chuckled and approached her."Hi..."
Aleena looked at him and smiled, though unable to talk.
"Don't worry, I understand it takes some getting used to. The moment you talk, you could be speaking in real life."
Aleena nodded and moved closer as Aorta wrapped an arm around her.
"Pretty dream right?" He grinned, looking down at Aleena with a smile.
They sat like this until Aorta decided to pull away. In the dream, he got up and started walking away before the dream ended. In real life, Aorta woke up slowly and so did Aleena. However, Aleena was sleepy.
"That was so cool..." She yawned which made Aorta smile.
"I know it was. You know about my second power but I wish I had a solution to get it back." He sighed.
"I hope so too..." She said happily before handing the cocoa beans to him. He thanked her and planted a soft kiss on her head before heading out.
As he was walking, he saw the familiar girl and sighed, pulling the hood on top of his head. He hoped not to be recognized.
She don’t see him at first but she does feel the air shift, as if someone near had been using magic. No one near to her seemed to react showing it wasn’t any of them. It takes me a moment but eventually she manages to break away from the conversation. Casting a quick cloaking spell. It doesn’t work consistently so she linger in the shadows, her form fuzzy around the edges, less real, more able to look over. Pausing there to look over the general crowd at the marketplace here. Because something is definitely wrong but she can’t figure out if it’s hunters or another magical being.
But she does spot Aorta. So she hesitates, she’d wanted to apologise for earlier however if she shows herself again she could miss whoever it was that had caused the air to ripple with faint traces of something not from this.
As he was walking by, a vendor had recognized Aorta and called him over. Aorta recognizing him, smiled and approached the vendor."How are you doing young man?" The old woman asked.
"Oh I'm doing quite fine thank you! What are you selling today?" Aorta asked happily.
"Oh nothing just the same old stuff. Bracelets, necklaces, anything. Did you find yourself a girl?" The old woman asked jokingly.
Aorta laughed but he didn't bother to correct her about his sexuality. "No, alas all the good ones are taken." He joked which made the old woman laugh.
They continued to chat for a while.
I watch him start to talk with the vendor a moment. Still hidden beneath the shadow of a building
Eyes scanning the area, checking to see what it happening around.
But there seems to be nothing about.
Just normal passerbys people going about on their lives.
And so I let out a breath, a bit annoyed, definitely very worried.
Going over if it’s really a good idea to somehow stage an accidental stumble to it seems normal that way I can explain this morning and slip in an apology.
Or if that’s too much, or if even being here is too much.
And then i just shake my head a bit.
Just deciding I can be seen again a little bit better.
Attention can hold if it chooses to now.
Going about my normality.
And as slightly overthought and planned i’m near to him.
Feigning a bit of recognition, that way it doesn’t seem like I’d totally been overthinking the whole encounter.
“Oh you’re that person from this morning”
I say simply
“Nice to see you again”
Simple, easy, and then I slightly add.
“I do think I may have been a bit too nosy this morning, I am sorry if it made you uncomfortable”
Simple easy, not even trying to explain it away.
And then onto the next thing, “do you perhaps know where the apple sellers went, the don’t seem to be in their normal spot?”
I question, frowning. Onto the next thing easily enough.
And someone else nearby, just passing through gives directions.
I thank them and start making my way that way.
(wasn't sure if they should bump into each other or not LOL the
indecisiveness probably shows)
(LOLL NO ITS OKAY!)Aorta's smile dropped when he turned around to see the lady this morning. He was about to speak when suddenly she walked off. He excused himself from the vendor before running after her.
"Wait." Was all he could say, grabbing her by the shoulder and turning her around. "Why would you walk off hm? I don't think that's really thoughtful, considering I wasn't even talking to you or giving any attention to you at the moment." He said, staring down at her before taking her hand pulling her to a less crowded area.
"Well before you run off, I take your apology but next time young woman, careful of what questions you ask. Especially if it's someone you're meeting for the first time." He warned softly before letting go of her hand and walking off towards a dark alley.
I freeze, just watching him. Off to a less crowded area, definitely unexpected considering I hadn’t really planned this far.
But decent, and I just listen.
Nodding my head slightly.
But now I definitely have more questions
Which I just decide not to ask.
And then before I can really answer he’s walking off again.
A darker alleyway.
“Alright well then perhaps I’ll see you around”
I say simply.
Actually taking his advice, but noting most people normally love talking about themselves and he does not, slightly different and something for future reference.
And then I am curious, contemplating following him. With the way we’re going it’s nearly like we’re playing a childs game of tag.
Instead I decide to head back to my own cottage.
Back to the edge of the woods, thinking hard, because there just seems something not of this time about him but I can’t exactly place what it is.
“Good bye then”
I say softly
And head my own direction.
Continueing on.
After going for a small walk, he sighed and headed back to his hut, stressed. Thoughts of her were running through his mind and he hated that. He felt a bit terrible for scolding her today, something he usually wouldn't.He went to his room and lit a candle before using a pen and writing a letter.
Dear Melinda,
I apologize for lecturing you yesterday. Yes, I felt a bit invasive but I'm sure your intentions meant no harm. I also apologize for lecturing you yesterday, my anger got the best of me.
I understand if you're mad but if you wish to consult me about this letter, feel free to find me at the local fountain this evening.
- Aorta
He neatly folded the letter into an envelope before placing it on the desk and heading to bed, falling asleep.
The next morning, he headed to her apothecary early morning and slipped the envelope under the door before stalking off to the library, hoping to find some information on his powers.
That morning I wake up to a letter under my door. I scan through it
And then re-read it twice.
He hadn’t needed to apologise.
I’d been there to apologise to him, not the other way around.
But there is definitely something curious about him, so I contemplate going to the fountain.
Because i’m curious, and also I’d thought I’d felt something nearly magical around there. But I couldn’t be sure, going a second day shouldn’t do any harm.
And so I set about my tasks.
The garden, the forest creatures I end up helping occasionally.
Tidying up my shop.
And then heading out.
I find myself a bit nervous
Not at the fountain
But around it, that way I’m not the center of attention.
Always better at redirecting it.
After spending almost the entire day in the library, he made his way to the fountain. He hadn't noticed Melinda at all and sighed, thinking she wasn't going to come. He had clearly scared her off and felt a bit bad. He ran his hands through his hair while he waited, hoping she was just a bit late.
She stepped up to the fountain. “Hey sorry for being late”She says casually, a small smile.
The sun dancing on her dark hair, the fountain also bright and nice, we both stand out in different ways that’s what she realizes.
“I do apologise for being nosy, your reprimand was probably necessary”
I say with a small shrug
Placing it down.
That way there is no hard feeling between us.
He gives her a small smile, "Hello Melinda, do not apologize at all. I'm glad you came." He said honestly, gesturing her to sit beside him. "It's alright, I should have been more softer and sound like I am explaining rather than lecturing. Again, I would hope to be no hatred against each other for these actions.""Anyways, how was your day today? I hope for it to be pleasant." He noted, glancing at her.

She nods her head a bit, taking a seat beside him.
“It’s all good, no worries”
Her tone is calm and gentle back to normal more regular lie.
“My day has been normal” a small shrug
“Gardening, some minor exploring nothing too much”
A small pause
“What about your day?”
Casual as always, just talking a bit with him.
(hey sorry but I’m going offline for a few hours, where I am at it’s nighttime and tomorrow I’ve got school. So if it takes me a few hours or longer to respond don’t worry. Probably around this same time tomorrow my responses will be consistent.)
(Thats alright!!! TCC!!! GNNN)"That sounded like a nice, calming day." He said happily before looking at her. "I spent my day in the library, just reading and reading. Some literature is quite fascinating and interesting." He noted before staring off into the distance.
"Can I interest you in having supper together?" He offered, glancing at her. "It's getting late and I truly don't mind your company. We can go to a small bakery or place of some sort?" He offered.
Melinda just glances at him, a little surprised at the offer. A small smile appearing “That sounds nice” ashe stands at the edge of the fountain smoothing herself out. “A bakery sounds far better then what I was planning to throw together this evening” There’s a hint of amusement in her voice as she adds “And I think after spending an entire day in the library you should have some more company then books” She glances to the slowly darkening sky. “Besides it’s a pleasant evening, lead the way”
“Splendid.” He said happily as he stood up and offered her a hand, “it’s alright if you don’t want to take it, I respect that.” He said softly, meeting her eyes.At her tease, he laughed. “Alas, i don’t. This man right here is single and his only company is books.” He teased. “What about yourself? Do you have a partner?”
(Omg so sorry, I totally made this response and forgot to send it yesterday)Melinda glanced at the offered hand for a moment before taking it, her grip light and brief. “No partner” she answered simply “Apparanetly spending most of my time talking to plants and brewing remedies doesn’t make for any exciting social life.”
She tilted her head slightly walking with him. Their paces matching regularly. “Thought if books are your only company, I’m not sure you’re in any position to judge my social life”
She days amused. A bit teasingly.
(Thats okay!!)He attempted to watch her pace, not wanting to leave her behind. "Well if you like, we can always meet here at the fountain every week." He offered, for some reason hating the idea that she lacked a social life.
He found comment amusing. "Well, I could say the same for you my lady." He teased. "Any preference for cuisine? Savoury? Sweet?" He asked, trying to gain an idea of what she liked. "Or even homemade is an option, except it involves going to my place and I don't wish to make you feel awkward in any way." He noted, looking forward.
Melinda laughed softly, shaking her head."I think homemade supper at a stranger's house might be a bit much for our second conversation," she admitted, though there was amusement rather than suspicion in her voice. "A bakery sounds perfectly nice."
She glanced over at him for a moment before looking back down the street. "And for the record, I don't spend all my time talking to plants. Only the ones that are particularly good listeners." A small smile. "Though I suppose meeting you at the fountain every week would do more for my social life than arguing with rosemary."
"Well then, a bakery it is!" He said happily as he started leading her to a nice bakery he knew of. It looked fancy but their food always made him feel like he was at home.He laughed, "There's plants that listen?" He grinned, looking at her now with amusement. "Fascinating...I'll need a demonstration someday." He said with a playful smirk before looking forward again.
As they were walking, a small group of guards passed by them. That made Aorta shiver before recovering and looking around. He knew they weren't here to catch him but he hated the guards. He remembered when he had been in the castle prison, getting tortured. He zoned out a bit at that thought without realizing it, completely forgetting that Melinda was beside him.

Shall I put my OC here?
