Believe it or not - it's that time again!

1. A Stone Is Most Precious Where it Belongs: A Memoir of Uyghur Exile, Hope, and Survival by Gulchehra Hoja.

The author won the 2019 Magnitsky Award for Outstanding Human Rights Activist In November 2019, Hoja received the Magnitsky Human Rights Award for her reporting on the ongoing human rights crisis in Xinjiang and in 2020 she received the Courage in Journalism Award from the International Women's Media Foundation and was listed among The 500 Most Influential Muslims.

2. The Circle of Karma by Kunzang Choden
The author is recognized as the first Bhutanese woman to write and publish a novel in English and a different source - the first female author to be published from Bhutan. She is the recipient of the SAARC Literature Award and the Bhutan Echoes Legacy Award.

... No we don't. My deepest apologies. I just went to buy Circle of Karma and the "Kindle $10.99" button does not come in English, only Italian. It is not available on Internet Archive and my library doesn't have it. I can buy from Abebooks for the low, low price of $30 USD !!

Based on this I must retract my nomination. If anyone has one to replace it, please let us know. I may be back in a day or so if I find another that makes sense for everyone....

Here is another thought ~ what if our second book was an "our choice". We each pick one that will fulfill one of our open countries (or whatever other reason you choose) ?

I'm going to read Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali by Djibril Tamsir Niane, a translated work by this author from Guinea, which is still an open country for me. OR
The Book Censor's Library, Kuwait, which is also an open country.

That sounds fair. I'm still going to read Circle of Karma, because it is available on Internet Archive if you have disability access, but yeah I don't know where else it would be available for everyone else.
