Welcome to Goodreads Leitheoir. Have you read any books by the contemporary Irish Crime writer Ken Bruen? Unfortunately, he passed away last year. I heartedly recommend either (or both!) his Jack Taylor and/or Inspector Brant series of books. His Brant “The White Trilogy” books are among my all-time favorites. Bruen was awarded many literary awards during his lifetime. I especially liked his Jack Taylor books because in each of the 18 books in this series we learn what Jack Taylor is “reading”. That turned me on to wonderful authors I would not have found on my own. He is sadly missed by readers of noir crime fiction.

I am an (occasionally avid, mostly useless!) Irish reader in my mid-forties and I am joining Goodreads to motivate myself to read more, to hear about new books / authors I might enjoy, to share opinions & hear others opinions on what we are reading, and finally, to think more about the books I read as I seldom do much analytical thinking about them and that’s probably why I forget most of what I read instantly once the final page is completed!
My favourite book is John Mc Gahern “That They May Face The Rising Sun.”
My favourite authors are many and I love Irish literature. I appreciate many genres and read a fairly wide range of material, but generally don’t enjoy sci-fi or fantasy beyond a very small amount in what I consider an otherwise good book! I also listen to audiobooks occasionally when I’m driving and they are usually more factual in nature than what I read. I love the kindle and a regular book depending on where I am.
Looking forward to connecting with other readers and hearing about what you all are reading too.
