I enjoyed this the first time, but after I read Red Queen, the plots struck me as too similar. I checked publication dates and I realised that Powerless just reads like a altered (and in my opinion, inferior) version of red queen. Now I feel just disappointed.
i absolutely love powerless and all of the powerless books!! its one of my fav series ever. i do understand people who say its too similar to a couple others series, but i still love it cause it is different but familiar in good ways.
Yeah, I'm a Red Queen loyalist and this is... not beating the allegations... I might just re-read Red Queen instead. Yikes.

I think I'm going to as well, red queen is so much better!!!"

Piper 🐾 wrote: "Red Queen copied powerless"I shouldn't respond to the rage bait, but Red Queen was first published February 10, 2015
Powerless was first published January 31, 2023
@Piper 🐾 Seriously, how could Red queen copy a book that hadn't EVEN BEEN WRITTEN when it was published.
read halfway thru the first installment, was enjoying it so far but then i got really bored mid way. does it get better and more interesting after the whole world building or no?? TT
I agree with the comments so far on here. I really like Powerless, but it is for sure taken from Red Queen.
The author has stated that it was inspired by it and started as a FanFic thing, but it is too close to say it was **inspired** in my opinion.
However, I still find it entertaining since I also LOVED Red Queen so much.
Also, yes, Piper, you should look into it. Not only has the author admitted it is based on Red Queen, it was released WAAAYYY after.

ughhh i saw this book a couple years ago and wanted to read it soo bad, but then i heard about the plagarism stuff so i dont even know anymore. i think i'll just read red queen 😔
Honestly I see the similarities but I prefer Powerless, which I know is unheard of but still. I just loved Powerless WAYYYY more than Red Queen. But I do see the similarities
I just finished the book, and surprisingly, I really liked it. Honestly, I thought I was going to dnf it, maybe that's why it surprised me so much. The beginning is quite slow, and things only really start to happen when she arrives at the palace.
I didn't understand the trails, their necessity, but I liked them.I didn't like the violence at all. It was so unnecessary.
I didn't particularly like the characters, but I loved the romance between Pae and Kai. They get to know each other, and we, as readers, were there every moment, seeing the development of that. I think this is partly due to the writing, which is more detailed and doesn't try to rush the moments between them. I truly believe I've never read a romance that was truly slow burn, without any other intention between them than to be together because they liked each other, and not with something sexual always mentioned...
I loved the dances, and I never thought that thumb wars were something romantic, I was wrong, and happy about it.
What I didn't like at all was the love triangle, seriously. They're siblings... It really made me uncomfortable that she was in the middle of it...
At first, I felt it resembled the book "The Selection" by Kiera Cass, even the bombing of the castle and all that. However, I haven't read other books that is claimed the author based it on, but I understand what you guys mean.
Deep down, I really liked the book because of the romance between the two of them. And that was it.
I'm not super far into the book yet (a little less than a third of the way through) but I'm not the biggest fan of this book so far. I think the author can be a bit repetitive with their descriptions of the characters, and some of the writing is a bit lackluster for me. I'm hoping it gets better as I read through, because I do like the concept of the story. If anything this has become a good advertisement for the Red Queen for me.
