i recently created a letterboxd account to see what others' perspectives were on controversial films because i'm fascinated by hot takes, as you don't hear them often. anyway, i noticed that when i watch films now, i'm not fully experiencing the film due to the subconscious habits i've developed: analyzing cinematography techniques or trying to locate imperfections within, which totally defeats the purpose of enjoying a decent film.
i understand why letterboxd could be detrimental to film culture, but i can also understand why it could be good because, to some degree, it promotes intellectual curiosity about film, rather than just consuming it mindlessly (which is fine depending on your intentions).
