Do you judge books by their covers? What type of covers are you drawn to? Which ones do you usually avoid?

Unfortunately, yes, at a bookstore, I tend to reach out for either very shiny or very dark covers, depending on my mood.

I love horror, so scary, dark covers are like a confirmation that the book is going to be scary.
On the other hand, when I am in mood the mood to read fantasy, then I go for gold or silver tones, shiny stuff…

I avoid anything with couples on the cover as I don’t like romance that much.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1756 comments I don't choose based on covers but I do adore cover art and it can draw me in initially, all types.

I dislike when good cover art of existing series is replaced by movie poster type covers, yech

YES! I hate that or when they add the BIG red stamp of it being adapted and available on Netflix…

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1756 comments I know. Like we need a giant sticker over their faces saying "Now a TV show on Paramount" or whatever.

But yep I've seen it of Netflix plenty too. Sighs.

Cathy (cathepsut) | 807 comments Totally agree. I like what I see in the shop or online and will obviously pick that up first. But I buy based on the blurb and recommendations. Not a fan of all those movie cover replacements either. I am re-buying a series that has been adapted for TV and the new issues all have that annoying „now a major series on….“. I guess it boosts sales, sigh.

Yes, it must boost sales by a long range but, when I see them, I always think: “Don't put YOUR marketing on MY cover!”

DivaDiane SM | 30 comments I do love a good cover, but honestly, I rarely pay attention to the, especially because they’re pretty invisible on ebooks and audiobooks.
