Im off to bed but for the cool down week I will be focusing on my back up books :
🎧 At Bertram’s Hotel
📱 Ms Mebel Goes Back to the Chopping Block

I read a good bit but have a decent amount I want to finish this week still, a few of these are fine for next week, but a few I really do have to finish this week for various reasons
I will focus on two books this week:
Five Kisses from a Blasphemous Nun: A Giallo Mystery Thriller: I am at 50%. I want to finish it.
The Red Winter: this was my hardback choice for this readathon, but the decision wheel I used to pick my reads didn’t select it.

I haven‘t really managed to participate in this readathon, but I will check in for the cool down week.
Thank you for the company!
@ Susy. Thanks to you and other mods who held things together quite quite well! . . . .I discovered writing of Jesse Q Sutanto when I read the first Vera Wong novel. What a cozy delight!
@ Erin. Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann looks like it would be delight as long as the reader remembers to suspend disbelief or expands understanding of how sheep may communicate with each other.
@ Vavita did you not say that you like horror so scary it makes you not want to get out of the bed at night. . . . I think these books will do the job ;)
@ Pari Emma is a delight! I don't know why Austen was worried we wouldn't like her. Maybe she was expressing English-style humor :)
@ Cathy. Same here. Thanks for keeping me company :)

I didn’t manage to read for as many hours as I had hoped, but more than I was averaging while at the seaside reading anyway!I made good progress on 3 books:
Murder with a Side of Shrimp and Grits 80%
The Internet Con (nonfiction) 75%
Walking English (nonfiction) 13%
(Sorry no links since I’m on the app)
I will continue to focus on these 3 and I expect to finish the first 2 in the next day or two.

Already switched up my books: I'll be listening to The Haunting of Ashburn House instead of At Bertram's Hotel so I can join a buddy read.

@ DivaDiane, David Crystal can get one thinking. I am sure it is no different when reading Walking English: A Journey in Search of Language :)
@ Ann A, Paula by Isabel Allende is on my awareness list. Please say if you finish and what you think!
@ Susan, some time ago I downloaded The Ways of White Folks by Langston Hughes. Maybe I too will read soon.
Such a variety of selections!

Cynda, The Ways of White Folks is an insightful read into life during the 1920's and 30's. I appreciate that Langston Hughes had the guts to honestly portray life at that time for Blacks.
Susan, The people of the Harlem Renaissance were brave. Heck all the people of the Great Migration who packed their belongings and some food, arrived in cities that that did not much accommodate them were brave. . . . .I will eventually read.
I'm definitely in for the Cool Down Week. I have so many books I still want to read! Here's a link to my TRB for the week.
Been listening to The Haunting of Ashburn House (instead of At Bertram's Hotel), lovely spooky so far so enjoying it!
I have sooo much need to finish this week for a challenge and such and such, argh. I did read yesterday, but nothing finished yet. Able to do some audio with work today until off later and will get back to physical reading.
I have finished
🍎 Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine July 12 ⭐⭐⭐ Quite Enjoyable.
🍏 Brave New World by Aldous Huxley July 14 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A world without Shakespeare or God would be a world I have no desire to be in.
🍎 The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure by William Goldman. So much good stuff going on that I am left delighted and in delight! Adventure,Romance, sword fighting, Rescue, Post-Modernism, Comedy.
Now on to my last book that I restarting: Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are? by Frans de Waal.

I am struggling. I got a virus and I am on sick leave this week. Even though I have time, I am not always feeling well enough to read.
I finished one book. Started another one and managed 150 pages of its 500 pages.
My goal is to at least finish my second book this week.

Oh gosh Vavita. Take care of yourself. The reading will be here when you get back. Or maybe you will move on to other books. I can watch here as I am on the mend--only two more days of medicine.
Finished Two Truths and a Lie and Dead of Summer and read Sisters in the Wind so far post-readathon.

@Vavita, I'm sorry you're feeling too sick to read!
@Cynda Reads, I'm glad you're starting to feel better.
I'm out of work on medical leave following a surgery, so I feel you. I ended up spending most of yesterday in bed, much of it too sick to read (all the things triggered a massive migraine). Some days are better than others.

Doni, the concepts I get. The terminology not so much. Is that your experience too, or something else?
Vavita wrote: "I am struggling. I got a virus and I am on sick leave this week...."Oh no, get well soon!
Get well soon, V! I have finished 2 books this week:
- Murder with a Side of Shrimp and Grits, by Skylar Warren. A nice cozy murder mystery, if a little repetitive. Could’ve used a tighter narrative.
- The Summer War, by Naomi Novik. A wonderful fairy-tale-esque novella. Loved it.
I will probably finish The Internet Con, by Cory Doctorow today, since I have on 15% left and we are spending the day at a BBQ spot in the mountains where it is cooler. I will be reading most of the day!
Success!
@ DivaDiane. Enjoy finishing Internet Con while enjoying the fresh air and Earth energy in the mountains 🏞
@ Elyse. Birding with Benefits sounds like a delightful vacay love love affair 🦜
Looking forward to more wrapup successes!

I did indeed finish The Internet Con and made good progress on Infinity Gate, by MR Carey, which is great!
Look at you two go!
I will take until Saturday---maybe to finish Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are?.
@ DivaDiane about Infinity Gate. I am picking that up this evening. Catxhing up time!

So good to see such a good turn out this weekend! Things happened. I am now able to start and moderate this thread.
When Dewey hours end, sometimes we do not know what to do with our started but not yet compeleted books. We are readers, so we read on--often here at Dewey's, in a cool down week thread, like this one :)
Tell us what goals you still have to complete and how you are completing them. We want to hear 👂
